  • Two Lee Hodges

CONFUSINGLY for future Argyle historians, the Pilgrims had two players called Lee Hodges who played for them between 1993-2008, both Londoners who previously played for London clubs, and both of whom played in midfield for the Greens. Lee Hodges 1 (b. Epping) was signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur by Peter Shilton in 1993 and scored twice in seven Barclays Second Division games. He netted what turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 victory at Chester City on February 27th and followed that up with the opener in the following week's 4-0 triumph over Preston North End. Interestingly, both matches included own goals for the Pilgrims. Lee Hodges II (b. Newham) was also a loan acquistion, from West Ham United, for Mick Jones midway through the 1997/1998 Nationwide Second Division season which ended in relegation. he played in ten games, without scoring, making his debut in a 3-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth on November 8th, 1997. In 2001, Lee Hodges 1 returned to Home Park at the start of the 2001/02 Nationwide Third Division season and became and integral part of the Pilgrims' post-millenium rise through the divisions. Althrough the Lee Hodgeses never played together, they did feature on the same pitch, when the Pilgrims lost 2-1 at Scutnhorpe United's Glanford Park just before Christmas 2001. The match brought to an end Argyle's 19- gameundefeated run, a club record for a single season that had stretched back to late August. Inevitably, given the immuntable Law of the Former Player, Lee Hodges II scored both Scunthorpe goals.
