    Clearly they had scouters by this point, so he would have known Frieza was massively more powerful than him self. So why did he think getting into a fist fight with Frieza would work?

    he thought the more they attack the better the chance they have to kill him

    i mean frieza feared their combined oozaru attack so i guess yeah

      Desperation and zeal may have played a role perhaps? They could have tried something more subtle like poison but since when are the Saiyans known for their finesse and diligence?

        King Vegeta was a poor ruler. In the timeline where Broly was born, he should've used him; Trained him and in time challenged Freeza. Instead he makes poor choices which in the end dooms his people (most anyway).
