How can I improve my communication skills?

Crazy Awesome Legend

My boss at work said that if I could improve my communication skills by about ten percent then I might be ready for full time employment. So how do I go about achieving this?

I intend to discuss this with her as well.

One thing I think I can do is engage more in conversations with my colleagues. Sometimes I put my workload first rather than join in the conversations they have with each other. Another thing I really need to work on is how I interact with people who come from outside the workplace. There was an elevator repairman the other day who asked me to sign something but I couldn't understand what he was saying. Instead of just asking him to repeat himself I froze up and just ignored him, carrying on with my work and leaving him stood at reception like an idiot.

What will you do when you get old?

I'm not sure what communication skills has to do with working full time or part time, but I guess things are different in the UK than they are here in the U.S. I'm not sure what you do for a living but from that brief description it sounds like you're socially awkward. Maybe try not to be socially awkward.
