Homosexual, bisexual, asexual, pansexual, demisexual, the list goes on and on and on and it makes my brain ache. Here are some comprehensive lists for the lulz: http://itspronouncedmetrosexual.com/2013/01/a-comprehensive-list-of-lgbtq-term-definitions/ http://ageofs***lords.com/complete-list-of-all-tumblr-sexualities-so-far/ Now this may be an unpopular opinion here, but I think this is stupid, and I'll get into why. As humans, we want acceptance, but we also want to feel special. It's natural to search for truth and individualize one's own life experience. That's all this really is: individualizing your own experience to make yourself look or feel different from others.
Oh really? This doesn't make you special, nor does it make you an "androphiliac." It makes you heterosexual if you're a woman and homosexual if you're a man. Wtf. Obviously sexuality is fluid, and a lot of people aren't 100% gay or 100% straight, 100% male or 100% female; however, breaking this up into dozens of definitions to fit every single niche on the spectrums of sexuality, gender, and asexuality is ridiculous. I call myself bisexual because I like men and women. No, I am not 50/50 on the spectrum, and if I were to choose a label from this whacko list it would technically be something like demisexual aliquasexual borderline asexual cupio queer. We'd all be something totally whack if we went by these lists. People who feel the need to label themselves to the T are part of what's turned me away from the LGBT community. Not turned away as in no longer accepting--because obviously I am--but turned me away so far as I don't like to associate with people who feel the need to put their entire life stories on display to justify their uniqueness. We're all unique. None of us fit any particular sexuality exactly. Some of us love sex, some of us like it once a week, some of us don't like sex that much but do it for our partner, some of us absolutely hate sex. Some of us only like men, some of us only like women, some like both equally, some like both but one more than the other. Why does any of this matter so long as we're legally allowed to love who we love? There is no benefit to thinking like this unless it's a cry for attention, and I hate to say that. I really do. But I don't know how else to feel about it. I don't even know how to properly explain my dissatisfaction with the LGBTQ+ movement on Tumblr without sounding like an a*****. And this whole "If you won't date a trans-person you're transphobic" thing is an entirely separate issue, but it's so awful. I feel like the LGBT community is becoming hateful toward cis and straight people in so many ways, and it makes me sad to see it on Tumblr constantly. If you don't frequent Tumblr, you may have no idea what I'm talking about, but trust me when I say that it's bad. I'll try to find some Youtube videos later today so I can post them here, too. This is a bit of a rant because I've been thinking about it today. If you disagree, I totally respect that, and I respect anyone who identifies with these terms; however, I think that there are seriously flaws in this aspect of the LGBT community, and I'm willing to talk about it. EDIT: Now that I've typed all of this out and posted it, it may actually belong in DD. Sorry about that. Edited by Doggo Champion 2k17, Aug 16 2016, 03:51 PM.

It sounds to me like tumblr is no longer a healthy site for you to visit. Maybe just stop going there? It's kind of like coming here and them complaining about all the dbz posts. |

They almost made a teenage girl kill herself for drawing fanart that wasn't "politically correct." They're a lost cause.

Yeah, I really don't know what many of these terms even mean and think it gets pointlessly lost on people when you have to boil down and dissect your sexuality. I know mine isn't heterosexual. I've considered myself between asexual and heterosexual but don't try to find some very vague term to try and define myself. Is it really that necessary? Why does it go that far? I don't mean to sound insensitive. I also think the "you're transphobic if you won't date a transgender" to be hysterically ridiculous. I'm not comfortable with it because I already, at least, have a low sex drive. Also, while I completely support and have known multiple transgendered people, I simply am not attracted to them. Maybe it's the knowledge that they are transgender or maybe it's just something in my head. I've defended them before to the teeth against discriminatory f***s towards the LGBT community so I don't want that taken the wrong way. To be honest, even the "Q+" part at the end is confusing to so many people now. I feel like I'm drowning in technicalities and split hairs. People don't like to feel stupid and often turn off their brains and open minds towards people hurling terms around like they expect everyone to know them. It's extremely counterproductive. Also, I agree. Moved to DD. |

my post was posted before the thread got moved to DD just saying i guess i find it amusing in a "lol kids trying to be special" type of way but i dont really care about it more than that. i mean in a way it makes sense if it's a spectrum then you're going to get everything in between but oh well. |

Then there are some that use the freedom of speech card. You have no idea how much I wanna tear out what little hair I have when someone brings that up. |

On the subject of transgender people, I'm not super attracted to anyone, so I can't speak much on that side of things, but I don't know how well I would really connect with someone who was transgender. I already have a rough enough time connecting with cis men and women. It is a bit transphobic to say "I'm not attracted to trans people" just because they are trans, as there are many trans people out there who look just like the gender they identify with; however, the sexual side of things is a completely different story, and I think it's fair enough for someone to say that they aren't sexually attracted to trans people. Attraction is attraction. |

I guess it does have its place. Labelling yourself as straight/gay/asexual or whatever is useful for people who may have an interest in dating you. Of course, this should only really be relevant on a dating site, since I don't imagine your sexual orientation, no matter how specific, matters to most people on tumblr. But on a dating site it could be a useful way of saying "I'm only attracted to muscular males" or something, thus avoiding messages from non-muscular men, just as saying you're a straight female would avoid messages from other females. It'd probably be less useful though since there's so many words people would have to keep looking them up. On a similar note, why is it you can not be attracted to an entire gender, but when you start having preferences within a gender you're labelled as shallow? Like no one bats an eye when a straight male says he isn't attracted to other males. But if he doesn't like overweight females he's suddenly a shallow a*****. People act like once you've stated your sexual orientation, you HAVE to be attracted to everyone in that/those gender(s). As a short male, I've constantly heard the stuff about girls not dating short guys (which is itself actually commonly accepted compared to other things, e.g not dating based on weight). As a teenager it did kinda bug me, but by now I realise that it's no more offending to hear a straight girl say she isn't into short guys as it is to hear a lesbian say she isn't into men. If I could chose, I'd be attracted to everyone within an appropriate age range. Why would I want to purposely limit my options like that. |

I feel you OFG. There's one I'm not sure if its on the link or not that say "Someone who only attracted to men" and "someone who only sexually attracted to a certain hair color". I never and will never understand this. One IG post made a great point. ![]() |
