From a personal perspective, I can't say much other than it lines up with what everyone in this thread has said. On top of that, I know others within the community who have experienced the same. No one I know chose to be gay or bisexual and exhibited "gay traits" early on.

I always knew something was different, even when I was girl-crazy. One of my earliest memories confirming I was non-heterosexual is having feelings for my best friend. I remember enjoying hugging him very much and we were just 6 or 7. It was a different feeling compared to our other friends.

I remember someone telling me that homosexuals have a higher exposure to some hormone during extremely early development and that's the cause but I can't find it
