A question about Kaioshin

So this is a question that I've always had in dbz, so I figured I could make a thread and get some opinions on this. Obviously, Piccolo seemed scared of Kaioshin, but was that because Kaioshin was superior to him, or because he had the energy of a Kai? I mean, Piccolo isn't the type to drop out of a fight because the enemy is stronger than himself. What do you guys think?

Well he definitely could sense he was a Kai that's for sure, he asked the Supreme Kai if he was the Grand Kai at first and the reply back was the Supreme Kai. I feel like Piccolo felt that a Kai of that level would have been way way way out of his league so he got nervous and forfeited the match. So I guess you could say it was both. It's what he couldn't sense, the unknown that scared him a bit. He wasn't sure what he was getting into so he just forfeited.

Sorry that was kind of a scattered answer, but that's what I got.

Piccolo's later responce to Goku seems to clarify that he was referring to Kaioshin's power; dimensions has consistently equated to power whenever the term was used. How such an implicatively large gap seems to exist is odd - then again, if the 50x multiplier holds up then the Saiyans have apparently become so strong that even the likes of Kamiccolo and #17 might only equate to a single percent of their cumulative power.

That's right he did say that their dimensions were too far apart. I believe the quote form Daizenshuu for the Supreme Kai is: "Powers that far surpass the namekian Piccolo."

Yes, something like that.^

I think it was obviously about power, but it's a little easier to work with in the later pieces of the story if it's about status. I don't try to fight it anymore.
