Only if they'd convert to a diet including meat.

Pfffft no way in hell dude, I freakin love meat...it's more likely I'd become a cannibal before I'd become a vegan XD

Haha, f*** that. I love veggies no doubt, but I also love steak. Besides, why would I want a girl who would only accept me if I'm vegan?

All of this. I'm sticking with meat. You can go sleep in the garden if you're so concerned with your veggies. I'll move on.

Honestly? Assuming we've been in a relationship for a while, if it's leading up to this I've probably been making moves towards that already, if only to make lunch/dinner with him/her/them less awkward, it'll probably have been a slow build up than "YO STOP EATING MEAT!" Like some are assuming. Plus the hardest thing would probably have been eggs but it turns out I can go without pretty easily now that I've been in Panama. Honestly? Probably.

But it's also kind of unfair that some vegans expect their significant other to switch to veganism, whereas you don't ever have meat eaters asking the opposite.

Well given the context of why most people are vegans, it does make more sense for them to not want others to eat meat.

Telling someone to stop doing something you think is immoral makes more sense than telling someone to start doing something you don't think is immoral.

Because asking them to eat meat is asking them to partake in cruelty, whereas asking them to stop eating meat is asking them to stop being cruel.

And asking them to reduce their risk of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, gout, and just generally extend their life expectancy.

It's not a matter of taste, and they're not equivalent.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I'll elaborate lol.

I feel like OFG is right when she commented about the slaughterhouses. It truly is monstrous. When I'm healthy (aka not daydrunk and having an open wound in my gut) I eat meals that are hugely vegetable based. I love to cook. I work as a cook. Vegetables, for me, are the brightest spot of every meal. The color, flavors and texture are unprecedented.

Then reality sets in. Personally, due to my finances, I cannot survive on just that. Can you be a vegan and get all your essential proteins and amino acids? Yeah. I will fight that point to the bone with anyone that says they wouldn't do it because it isn't healthy. But can you also be a vegan, and shut the f*** up? I think yes  I would never expect anyone to adapt my eating habits. How does a vegan justify having, say, a cat? My cat is outdoors in the summer and lives on a lake. He is my pet, and thus his actions are an extension of my own personal accountability, correct? Same as a dog. My cat leaves heaps of dead rodents, some beautiful birds and baby rabbits all over the yard. Little things like this make it blow my mind that anyone can even rationalize expecting this out of a loved one because of some self-righteous crusade.

When I cook my meals, I always include at least 30g of tuna proteins. Or at least 30g of egg protein or whey from milk. After that, I don't eat much meat. I'm very poor. But being a vegetarian or a vegan, ultimately, boils down to one major thing. It's simple consciousness. Go back to what OFG said about the slaughterhouses. We all know. We all see it. And most of us still walk right back into McDonalds. To the people that can and do practice a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, I praise you. You have more willpower than I do with this and it's admirable. It truly is.

But if you start spouting the stuff to me like a Jehovah's witness of food, stop. Don't pander your lifestyle onto other people. Thankfully, none of my vegan/vegetarian friends are like this and I think the majority are not like this. But the ones who are, it's not a vegan thing. When it comes to religion, everyone has a minority that won't shut up about their belief-pushing, or non-belief pushing sometimes  people will behave this way about anything they are insecure or too serious about.

I guess when it comes down to it, all that in mind, why am I even in a healthy relationship with a loved one or a lover that has them behaving this way to begin with?

In what scenario is this necessary?
Most hardcore vegans want to date someone who is also a vegan. I see this all the time.
If you can't accept someone else's diet then there is not love, is there?

Veganism is more than just a diet. Half my meals are vegan and other times I consume dairy cuz it's available when I don't have the energy to cook, but idt I'd be able to go the full way.

Being a vegan is a transformative lifestyle. I often eat vegan/vegetarian coincidentally for days if I don't have a source of meat-based protein.

@Everyone responding to me: Yeah, but that's exactly like a Christian expecting their SO to convert to Christianity. You can't expect your lover to take on the same moral code and adhere to the same strict principles. You guys are right in saying that asking someone to turn vegan is different than asking someone to eat meat, but the analogy I've used is very similar.

If my SO would only accept me if I was a vegan or religious, they would be out the door. I'm not going to change my moral code for someone else. If I want to change, I'll do that on my own.

EDIT: I think I'm on drugs because I've had to edit this like four times.

I would never go vegan. Pescetarian, vegetarian, flexetarian, or any other more reasonable diet change I could probably do but not vegan. f*** that. Vegans need to realize that for most people, it's asking a lot when you ask them to go vegan.

I wouldn't do it
