Ah well. If I had to choose between our Father and the theories of science, the choice is easy. If I'm wrong, I know I'm not in the wrong.
You might want to add a -y to -our.
Not necessary. When I say "our", I'm referring to us believers. God is the Father of all who welcome him. Otherwise, the adversary would be one's father.
Not a very good reason to believe in a God in my opinion, but I respect yours nonetheless.

Also, lol.

I assume this thread turned into some long discussion between atheists and christians at some point, yes?
That's what happens all the time, and it would explain why there are already 5 pages.

About the thread, I was going to make some dumb joke about religion, but then I forgot about it.
I guess I'll just post a picture of Jesus Christ holding a raptor.

Seriously though, I don't believe in any Gods but myself.
Oh hey, I actually remembered it in the last minute.

Well no, I don't believe in Him because He welcomes me, Him welcoming me is just a perk of being loving to all and faithful to him. But I wonder what the lol was for.

@Darker actually most of it was people sharing their beliefs, then why they believe it (a la my question), then discussion on various things.

Why am I an atheist? I'm practical, fairly well educated when it comes to the subject of Abrahamic religion and find that the whole concept makes little to no sense. I get attacked for it by family and friends occasionally. You would imagine I would be more upset, but, I tend to just sort of feel surprised and mildly amused that this is one of the forefront things troubling them in my presence when it is so inconsequential to me personally. I've debated priests on here and very fervent religious people. It really can stay civilized. I just don't want this turning into a "does God exist?" topic like they almost always do.

I would like to debate with you about God if you have time. Or anyone is up to it, I would like to know more religion and God of Israel/or God of the Old Testament and Jesus.

My family is divided when it comes to religion, since my parents background is from Russia and China, I have family members who are Russian Orthodox and others are Buddhist. I was brought up early on as Catholic, but realising the horrors (Inquisition = over 50 million deaths tied with the Inquisition, Crusades violence they committed killing ALL Jews, and Muslims) they committed through the dark ages, and how the Catholic church and the Roman emperor change important dates (inserting Christmas which is a pagan holiday to say it's celebrating Jesus birthday, Easter, and worshipping on sundays, and other things).

From there I became atheist, then I realise atheists are a group that dislikes religion. You can defend all you want by saying you don't call yourself a A-unicornist or A-leprechaun, because you don't believe in unicorns or leprechaun, but the difference is you don't go out your way hating/disliking what religion stand for. Dawkins has been on record saying he wants to eradicate ALL religion. If you put that much time and effort, then your not just A-something...

From there I tried Buddhism to search for peace and spirituality, now I'm more agnostic.

I like what Neil deGrasse Tyson said:

I am not surprised, the people on this forum are all quite intelligent nice fellows.
Or at least you guys don't get agressive too easily.

Otherwise there'd be a lot of banned users in this thread.

What will you do when you get old?

I've been told my views are pretty close to Daoism but I'm not a Daoist.

It seemed to be that you were basically saying "better to believe in him and be right than not believe in him and be wrong" as if your only motivation were a fear of hell. If that isn't what you were saying though, I probably just misread.

The lol wasn't aimed at your post. Just at Ultimecia's joke.

Well it's not a fear of hell so much as it is a desire to be with him forever. Hell is actually the grave, I'm pretty sure. Seperation from God. The lake of fire thing gets misinterpreted I believe.

I remember you correcting me on this, but I can't remember exactly what you brought to do so.

reading through the first two pages made me twitch because some of you are still building up strawman arguments regarding things a number of us have discussed sooooooooooooooooooooo many times in so many different threads -- e.g., what is atheism

This post is not making sense anymore after I changed my set.

So I'll leave this here so people can understand what he's talking about.
