Thread to talk about your ancestors.

My father's father and his fathers before him were from East London. All served in the armed forces.

My great grandfather was a soldier in the Coldstream guards. An elite regiment in the British Army.

His son served in the Royal Navy and was a Special Duties Officer in charge of the weapons.

My father's mother and her parents were from Glasgow in Scotland. My great gandfather on this side was a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy.

My mother's father was from Plymouth and so was her mother. I have no idea what either of them did for a living or anything about their parents.

Sounds like you have a lot of military backgrounds in your family.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'd imagine most people will find military backgrounds in their recent family history.

I actually don't know much about my ancestors. My great grandfather on my dad's side was in the army. I think he was a prisoner of war at some point, and he also had a certificate for something during WW2 (can't remember what for).

I probably should show more interest than I do, but I don't really care. I didn't know these people, so whether they're related to me or not doesn't make much difference to my interest in their lives.

Pretty much every UK adult's grandparents will have served in the armed forces due to conscription.

My mom did some legwork on her side of the family tree and apparently I am related to the last Ripper victim.

So......that is......interesting.

Also got the requisite soldiers in the family tree but that one Mom found kinda beats all on the intriguing scale lol

What will you do when you get old?

My great great grandparents were from Germany, my grandparents were from Germany, then moved to Argentina in 1944, and had my father. My father came to the U.S and met my mother, whos parents came from Rhodesia.

My grandfather, dad's side, was military. Not sure which branch, but I know he was a POW at one point and learned how to count to 10 in Japanese.

That's about all I know. I remember Ancestry telling me I'm linked to the Oregon Trail as well.

Besides my parents and grandparents, I don't know much beyond my grandparents.

Mother side:
Grandfather owned a convenience store. My grandmother was the typical house wife looking after the house and cooking and cleaning. My grandma was persecuted by the Chinese because she was Russian. Due to the high tension between China vs Russia during that time.

Father side:
Grandfather was part of the Chinese army. Grandmother was a strict wife/mother. She's a housewife.

Mother: High school teacher.

Father: Hardware Engineer.

I have no military background in my family beside one of my grandfather.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

My great great grandfather built a house about 15-20 miles from where I live now with his bare hands. His generation was the first on my fathers' side to take root in U.S. soil as immigrants.

I'm not really sure about my mom's side. I know my great grandfather was in World War I there, and my grandfather was in WWII. But, I can't go back any further than that.

My roots in Puerto Rico can be traced back to Taino indians... hooray, somewhere along the line my elder grandmothers were raped. That's a nice thought.

From what I've heard from my Mom, her side of the tree can be linked back to England. Apparently there's a castle or some s***, but I've never asked further beyond "that's cool".

Parents and grandparents on each side are both from Iran. I was born in the United States, great grandmother on mother's side was from Germany, great grandparents from father's side were from Iran. That's all I know, Grandpa on mom's side was an engineer in the Iranian Army, and actual has a photo of himself with the leader of the Iran at the time, the Shah. Really cool.

Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder!
Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have a love of humanity in your hearts! You don't hate!

My grandmother on my mother's side is Belgian, I don't know too much about my mom's side of the family. My dad's side has lived in the Netherlands for centuries. They can be traced back to the early 16th century.
