After 93 encounters I got a shiny Ho-Oh! Oh my goodness I am in LOVE. It has a wonderful IV distribution and even got the nature I wanted (ty synchronize) I started freaking out and shaking. My boyfriend was really confused and worried after he noticed my voice trembling and body shivering but it was all for a fire turkey xD |

That's awesome Sky! I don't think I'd ever have the perseverance to soft-reset, but 93 encounters is really lucky. I've given up on my bug run. The challenge was interesting initially, but now it's starting to drag and isn't really fun anymore. Just a continuous string of battles that take too many attempts and are so painstakingly slow. I ended up subbing in 6 legendaries (the legendary dogs and the legendary...whatever they are, the trio from Black & White) so I can just power through quickly, get Xerneas, and move onto something different. Probably a SoulSilver nuzlocke. |

I was waiting for somebody else to post so I didn't have to double post, but here's an update on my Soul Silver Nuzlocke: This is the story of Rex and his journey to best the legendary Pokemon trainer Red. As if overcoming a legend wasn't enough of a challenge, the starter Pokemon roulette wheel bestowed upon Rex the toughest route to achieving his goal: Bucky, the Chikorita. Going up against a Flying-type gym with a grass Pokemon could mean the end of Rex's journey before it could begin, and that was to be followed up with a Bug specialist, but hey, if it ain't easy then it's not worth doing. On the long trek to Violet City, Rex gradually filled out his team. Magnus the Rattata was first to join the roster, followed by Zeus the Pidgey. The prospect of Falkner still loomed dangerously on the horizon, but Rex lucked out with his next capture: Izzy the Geodude. The new foursome dealt handily with the Bellsprout Tower and then moved onto the first gym badge. Magnus took down Falkner's Pidgey with ease and then came the crucial showdown: Izzy vs Pidgeotto. In what was an anti-climactic fight, Izzy left the lifeless carcass of Pidgeotto under an avalanche of rocks and Rex had his first badge. Next up was Bugsy and his swarm of insects. Rex added two more Pokemon on route to round out his six: Chloe the Mareep & Chuka the Paras, before foiling Team Rocket's latest futile endeavour to rule the world. Izzy and Zeus demolished the Azalea Town gym and Rex was banned from ever entering the building again. Two badges down and onto Goldenrod City. Magnus, Jolly, Lv. 16 Chloe, Adamant, Lv. 16 Chuka, Mild, Lv. 16So yeah, great start. No deaths so far and nobody's really came close. I managed to catch an Abra too which is awesome since I've never managed to luck out and catch one in a Nuzlocke, but I don't really wanna mess with my team currently. Also, nicknames probably suck, but that's never been my forte. It's never something I would do of my own accord, just a Nuzlocke rule, although sometimes there are names that I end up really liking. |

Awesome work Mitas. I got destroyed by Bugsy the first time because I wasn't prepared for his Scyther. And as long as you can keep that Geodue around you should be able to handle the nightmare that is Whitney and her Killer Cow. --- --- I do need to continue the adventures of Captain Kipper and Team Whirl, had just beaten the Galactic Base in Eterna before I took a long break and started playing some casual Emerald. |

Geodude was very handy against Scyther. Rock Throw was 4x effective, plus he was resistant to all of Scyther's moves. I've made some more progress; spoiler alert, I am no longer deathless. Sad times. |

Oh....if only it were one. The Nuzlocke is still alive, but we've taken some major hits. Update: In the immortal words of Jay Z: it was all good just a week ago. Or rather, an update ago. Rex's journey continued swimmingly. The Goldenrod Gym didn't prove much of a challenge for Geodude, who resisted Miltank's Stomping (with the help of a few potions) and slowly but surely took it down. Three badges down and the party were still unscathed. Not for long. In preparation for Morty and his murderous Gengar, Rex embarked on a training expedition, tackling every possible trainer available. The first to fall was perhaps the most innocent of the bunch, young Chuka the Paras. Not quite ready to handle full battles himself, Chuka was being switch-trained when a Raticate pre-empted the Paras' retreat with a Pursuit. The first casualty and a harbinger of things to come. A short while later Rex came up against a Charmeleon. Izzy the Geodude was sent out to deal with the Fire Pokemon, but in a uncharacteristic mistake Rex had overlooked a crucial move: Metal Claw. One strike, one critical hit, one more death. Rex decided that he had trained as much as he could. It was time to bite the bullet and face down Morty. Magnus the Raticate swept through the preliminary trainers, carrying forward his momentum into the battle with Morty until there was just one hurdle left: Gengar. An earlier Curse still lingered and Rex called Magnus back to rid him of the spell, sending out Bucky the Bayleef, confident he would be able to handle himself until Magnus could tag back in. Mean Look. Bucky was trapped, and with Razor Leaf the only viable weapon in his arsenal, it was a death sentence. Rex's oldest friend perished. Magnus switched in, dealt a blow, but was quickly sent to sleep. Rex had to move fast or risk a Dream Eater hitting hard. Chloe the Flaffy tagged in. Mean Look. Shadow Ball. Dead. Chloe managed to leave her mark, paralyzing Gengar with a Thunder Wave. Magnus switched in for the final showdown. He emerged victorious, but the battle had taken it's toll. Four badges, but at a heavy price. Rex set about replacing his fallen comrades. In came Shin the Abra, who quickly became a Kadara, Sapphire the Tentacruel, Alloy the Magnemite, & Rayne the Poliwag. In an feeble attempt to put the tragedy behind him, Rex pushed on to Cianwood City, taking on every trainer along the way and spending some time training his new companions. However, after evading his attention in he early stages of his journey, Death now seemed intent to stalk our hero. Zeus the Pidgeotto led the charge in the Fighting Gym, but a Hitmonchan threw a spanner in Rex's plans. Fearing a Thunder- or Ice Punch, Zeus was called back. New addition Sapphire was sent in to bide some time, but she proved to brittle. One shot, one kill. Then Shin was given his chance, but his punch didn't pack enough power and Hitmonchan responded in turn, taking down yet another victim. Magnus the Raticate, the fastest of Rex's Pokemon, was sent in to pick off a weak Hitmonchan. Rex's team was once again left in disarray. How can he expect to best the Gym leader if an underling gave him this much trouble? Things were beginning to look perilous. Magnus, Lv. 23 Zeus, Lv. 23 Alloy, Lv. 24So yeah, things really got out of hand fast. I'm really not confident going into the battle at the Cianwood Gym, gonna have to do some training. And no, Magnus and Zeus have actually been really solid, Magnus especially (although he won't be much use in the next battle). I only showed four Pokemon because I'm not entirely sure who the next two will be. I'll introduce them at the beginning of the next update. Edited by Mitas, Sep 17 2016, 11:30 PM.

Damn! You've had it rough and losing your starter too. I mean it was Bayleef and we all know how awesome that thing is....but even still losing all that in such a relatively short time. --- --- I've decided to try my hands out on a Platinum Nuzlocke because Team Whirl is taking too much time for me to really want to put the effort in. (Napoleon, Lv. 12) (Rika, Lv. 7)Our adventures in Sinnoh started us off with our good, if not rambunctious friend Barry wanting to go see Professor Rowan. Unfortunately the kids kind of an idiot and he was willing to rush into tall grass. Has he not heard the stories of children eaten by ravenous Bidoofs? Luckily Rowan stopped him and after a few words I collected my first Pokemon. The Water Penguin Pinplup. I affectionately named him Napoleon. Hopefully he will last long enough so that the name has some meaning to it. Of course in his haste, Barry wanted to battle. I knew he was an idiot but I did not think he would employ such cowardly tactics like utilizing a constant array of Withdraws, painfully prolonging the battle as Napoleon smacked away at it with an array of pounds before after probably 8 minutes finally beating it with literally 1 freaking HP left...seriously...it was a pain in the a***. I was already thinking of what was to come. I knew if I could get a Starly, that would help immensely with the grass gym and to my luck, I did catch one. Rika our second member of the team would need some work but I was proud to have her. I kind of expected to run into a Bidoof next, it was the most popular Pokemon around along with Starly. However, much to my enjoyment Instead ran into a Shinx. Glad to have not only an Electric Type but one which also knows "intimidate" I was glad to have Bzzt Light Year on the team. Our journey headed towards Jubilife where after obtaiing a PokeTech, we went on our way to Oreburgh. The rock gym there was something that only Napoleon could handle so I knew I had to train him well. Unfortunately it would seem Barry had come in and was eager for a fight. I think he was still a bit sore after losing. Dealing with his Starly was easy but then came his Turtwig. I was probably overthinking it but I simply didn't want Napoleon out at the time despite being the strongest. If that turtle knew any grass moves, it would be disastrous. But just like last time instead of fighting like a real Pokemon, it hid in its shell, forcing us to beat it down until finally stopped moving. Time consuming and obnoxious but for now all is good. With that out of the way, we ran into a Bidoof, caught it and named it Buckster. Our journey to Oreburgh continues. |

The Nuzlocke is dead. Well, not really, but I while I was searching for new Pokemon in places I hadn't caught one, training them, and getting the EXP Share, I lost my Raticate and Pidgeotto in quick succession, so gave up because I can't be bothered to train multiple Pokemon 10+ levels. Good while it lasted. I think I might try Pokemon White next. |

Ah man, it's kind of a shame your Nuzlocke had to end like that. Hopefully better chance with "White" If it helps, perhaps you could add a little amendment to your Nuzlocke. Still be able to heal fainted Pokemon but you still got to play by the other rules such as catch rate or number of healing items you can use. It would still lead to the challenge of a Nuzlocke without having to worry constantly about losing all the hardwork because of a stray crit or something. --- --- Platinum Nuzlocke Update The journey through Oreburgh was a lot more eventful than I imagined. In the short time since I started, Napoleon had already evolved into a Prinplup. I knew he was the one who would take care of the gym. I had nothing to fear from Roark's Geodude or Onyx but I knew I had to be careful with his Cranidos and his hellish headbutt. My first idea was to send Bzt Light Year out first and just get a quick intimidate off. Things nearly went south when I didn't realize that hard headed dinosaur knew pursuit. Luckily my electric cat survived and Napoleon was at it again. Things nearly went south again when a critical headbutt nearly brought Napoleon to his knees. But beyond those close calls with death, the gym was beaten quickly. My next step was to head to Eterna City. Of course we had to arrive in the flower city (I honestly can't even recall the name) where Team Galactic was hatching a nefarious scheme. Along the way both Rika and Bzt Light Year evolved, filling me with much joy. Near the Windworks, I also discovered a Shellos named "Lilian" I didn't realize that disaster was going to strike soon. Busting through the Windworks, my team made short work of the meager Galatic Grunts. Then it came to the battle with Commander Mars. I already prepared myself for the Purugly that would come but it would seem somebody on my team had gotten cocky. Not even on the 2nd Gym yet and who would've thought a stay critical would actually take out Napoleon. The starter, the one who first got us going was dead. The one whose name was intended to signify a great leader, fell with disgrace in a battle with an ugly cat. The others are not pleased, even I'm disappointed at this useless sack of penguin. I had expected something better, cooler, or at least lasting just as long as the freaking turtle. Either way Rika seemed eager to take the lead and the others soon followed her. As for Napoleon, we tossed his corpse into the river and Lilian has taken his place. We arrived soon after into Eterna an went to the gym. With a flying type Pokemon that was Rika with us, though things got a bit spicy with a Magical Leaf at one point, we took care of Gardenia. It's now time to head to the Galactic Building. --- --- (Lilian, Lv. 14)We have more but honestly their nothing more than meat shields at this point. The three above are currently the ones who have any worth. Seriously, can't believe I lost my starter already...worst Water Pokemon ever.

Nah, I'm OK with keeping the rules as is. No pride in finishing it if I have to make it easier. I'm determined to complete a Nuzlocke at some point in my life, but the closest I've ever gotten is 7 badges (twice). Decided to go for Leaf Green instead of White, I'll post an update later on. Oh, I also have a foreign Ditto now. Been wanting one for a while so the odds of hatching a shiny are a lot shorter. |

Well the Nuzlocke is dead. Got killed off by a Pachirisu and some Geodude decided Magnitude 10 and Self Destruct were the best options. I think I know why I find this so difficult now. Not only am I at a limit to the kind of Pokemon I can catch, Platinum forces you to grind even on a normal setting. I hate grinding, it wouldn't be so bad if Wild Pokemon gave you decent enough experience but they don't and until you get the Vs. Seeker your grinding is going to be long, hard and arduous. It was a miracle I even got through the Galactic Building. I had to sacrifice a all of my "meatshields" just to beat Skunktank and after you've fought everyone, there's simply no other way to grind up except to battle wild Pokemon. It's a frustrating pain and really it was frustrating as all heck when I wasn't doing a Nuzlocke. I probably should've seen it coming though. I mean if the Rock Gym can actually nearly kill the Water Starter, what should I have expected. I might try an Emerald Nuzlocke again, at least that game doesn't annoy me in the way Platinum does. Plus I got pretty far in my last Nuzlocke, 7 gyms I believe. |

My problem with Nuzlockes in general is a lack of grinding. The most I'll ever grind is maybe one or two levels each, if that, because I rarely have the patience for it. Plus, I take too many risks. I'll go into a gym battle even when I know I'm probably not ready, or gamble tanking a move e.g. if I had 40HP and took 19 damage, I'll risk one more hit rather than switching out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but in Nuzlockes it's usually best not to risk it, and I always do. |

So the Emerald Nuzlocke started off with a Treeko named "Dante" joining the team. I have high hopes that he will be a great leader for the others. He got crit by a wild Taillow. V-Very well then, Tina the Poochyena, I hope you wlll become the leader that...dead. Ok...Cascoon, show us...*only knows Harden) Ummm, Zigzagoon you...*isn't even on Level 5 yet* Right, I guess this goes down to the random Lotad which consists of "growl"...whoo hoo...Astonish...how nice...and Absorb...wee! I just now got to Rustboro, fate is against me it seems. |

So I started my Leaf Green nuzlocke. Trainer Card number gave me Charmander and my 3 captures are Rattata......Rattata.....and Weedle. The two rats also have natures that lower attack. Great start. Probably isn't gonna last very long :P Edit: Yup, Brock ended the run. Really s***ty luck of the draw. No Mankey, Nidoran or Butterfree which all would have been more useful than what I had.
