DBZf Pokemon Talk

There's been some talk up in the General Discussion about doing some Pokemon related for the forum. Some have suggested having the group do a pokemon playthrough of one of the games while others have suggested doing some kind of tournament. Either way as much as I can, I'd be glad to help out in anyway I can. I was hoping we could get a main idea out, and then create kind of a chat recording area where the group could get together, do whatever Pokemon thing they decide to do, record it and then get it posted on DBZf.

Any thoughts?

I'd be fine with just about anything. I'm suprised we don't do more kinds of things like this. If we did some sort of Pokemon tournament how would that work? I'm open to anything but I don't know what. Sorry I realize you're the one asking us but I'm asking questions aren't I

Edit: On an old forum I was an Admin on we did had a tournament forum section where we pinned characters up against each other in fights. It was more about popularity then strength. We had a list of characters and they were all randomly up against each other. There could be biddings on who could win and prizes for the winners. This way everyone could participate, not just people who own Pokemon games. I think that might be interesting. What do you think?

Double Edit: Tbh I'm very surprised the forum doesn't do anything like that for the DBZ sections.

Any idea is worth talking about.

One thing I thought would be cool was getting a select group to work on one of the games, like an Emerald Nuzlocke and just see how far that group can go. It's easy getting a rom and then using Google Hangout to record everything and get it posted. Different groups could work on different games and we could all see how how each group fairs.

On a personal note, it would be easier for me if its in of the GBA games. My computer can handle games like D/P/PL and Soul Silver/Heart Gold but every so often it does get a bit sluggish.

Yeah this was great when we used to play. The OTL tournaments were fun, although I'd always be last place because I know nothing about pokemon pvp.

I'd definitely be up for anything Pokemon related, be it a tournament on showdown or a community Nuzlocke/regular play-through.

The only thing about Nuzlockes/play-throughs is that some people would have more time to play than others, so everyone would end up being at different points of their play-throughs. One person could be on their first badge while another is on their sixth.

As far as playthrough/Nuzlocke goes, I don't think there's much of a problem if people are at different stages of the game. We don't necessarily need to make it a race. Thought if someone does do a walkthrough/Nuzlocke I do think it would be best to limit it to maybe 3-4 people per walkthrough/Nuzlocke.

How they go about in playing it is up to them. Maybe one person will play the game entirely while the others join on feedback and commenting with him or he. Maybe they'll trade data through E-mails and stuff (I assume they'll be using roms and stuff) so each week a new person plays the game.

Even then maybe just one soul person will do it.

And of course I really do love this tournament point as well.

One major aspect I think needs to be done is that it needs to be community related so at the end, we need to get on DBZf and tell everyone whether through text or a video or whatever our little adventures.

The pokemon showdown simulator is perfect for tournaments

How exactly does the PKMN Showndown Simulator work? I'd like to stick with doing some kind of play through with a group but if need be, I can get anything related to the tournament ready and updated for those who want to do that.

Let's you pick a team with all the EVs and IVs you want for the pokemon you choose in your team and you can just battle people in it online in your browser.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to get to grips with. You can either create your own teams or have one randomly assigned to you.

I assume that means you can also select the certain move sets and levels necessary?

I think it was brought up before, but I do like the idea of everyone playing through whatever game they wish, then bringing their select PKMN to the brackets. I understand it wouldn't be a perfect representation between your games and the simulator but its just the fun of it.

Also, just as an inspiration. I thought it might be cool if we turned DBZf into a kind of Pokemon Overworld, where each section is kind of like a route/city. Moderators (if they're willing) could be Gym Leaders and then you come in a take on the Elite Super Modes and what not. It's a bit overboard but it was just an idea.

That seems a little overboard. But I do like the idea of a community play-through of the games. I've got the majority of the games from Ruby/Sapphire upwards. We could post updates after each badge and compare teams etc. I'm not sure if it's possible, but we might even be able to recreate our teams on Showdown and have battles that way.

I like that idea. If nothing else, all of us playing through our respective games and chatting about it on some part of the forum would be fun and we can discuss things with one another and do matchups with the simulator.

yea that's what one of my suggestions was: go through a game together and then end it by recreating in-game pokemon on showdown so that it adds some sort of limitation to what ppl can use on showdown.
