Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah I can picture him using it or the Chrysler building to stab Godzilla.

New York makes sense since it's such an iconic location for Kong to be in. Though I doubt they'd be putting him on show like in older movies so not sure what realistic reason there is for them to go there.

I completely forgot that we've seen tons of bones of old members of Kong's species, Gaw being a part of this makes even more sense. Unless it'll be a lesser foe and then Gaw for King Kong 2 if there is one.

That could work, if Godzilla beats him or it's otherwise a draw then his title of King shatters so beating Gaw would make him King again.

Still feeling like he looks really small though is 30-40 years even a reasonable amount of time for him to get big compared to Godzilla?
He looks like he should be riding Godzilla in to battle rather than fighting him.

The fact that two of the skeletons are together makes me think that Gaw (seriously let's hope he's in this) killed both of his parents on the same location, since those skeletons could be Kong's mom and dad. The other bones must be either Kong's brethren and other family members or simply part of his species.

Remember that Godzilla will be fighting Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah in 2018, meaning Kong will not only have to be big, but pretty strong too.

Kong does need strength, but with enough smarts he'd be able to manage something. Rodan suffers from a massive deficiency in ability to actually fight due to having no beam and only being able to kick and peck, Mothra unless she's spamming beams and lasers Heisei style has the same problem, and King Ghidorah is going to get triple teamed most likely in the movie.

Well yeah I expect him to be smarter than Godzilla because Legendary Godzilla didn't exactly showcase anything beyond acting like a typical animal taking on other predators, Kong being an ape should be able to use tools and make up strategies in mid fight to take down Godzilla.

Who knows, maybe Ghidorah will be pretty weak in the 2018 movie.

Reading through Wikizilla, I found this site: http://www.discoverskullisland.com/

Interesting...

Legendary also posted a map of Skull Island a while ago.

And according to this website: http://movieweb.com/skull-island-toby-kebbell-king-kong-facial-expressions/

Toby won't be playing Kong, Terry Notary will. Doesn't really matter, both played primates in the Planet of the Apes reboot series, so I'm expecting him to do a good job too, since he knows about ape movement and all that jazz. The difference being that Terry played Rocket, a normal (albeit bald) chimpanzee. I expect Kong to behave in a smarter manner than this chimp.

Plus, don't worry about size Steve, I'm 10% sure that this poster is hinting at the kind of monster Godzilla will be facing in 2020.

I am certainly digging the almost demonic red eyes he has going in some shots.

Seen a guy on Facebook saying that nobody wants these movies and that you can't beat the action of the MCU like Hulk vs Loki(how was that a fight...)
Not sure if trolling.

That poster certainly looks bigger than the trailer version of Kong anyway, that scene where Kong is in the water swinging at some dudes makes him look way less than 100ft so he must get bigger.

It'll be cool if we see Kong's origin story instead of him just being there. The story though his eyes would be more interesting than cave paintings or some goofball explaining it.

Yeah, definetely a troll. Though coming from a MCU fan, it doesn't surprise me seeing how biased they are.

...Radiation maybe? I dunno.

That's pretty much what we're getting: How Kong became King of Skull Island. Though I expect this movie to be more than just a giant flashback.

A baby Kong would be cool to see too, wonder how big it'd be? Probably bigger than any gorilla can possibly get in the real world anyway...

Yeah I assume a lot of explanations in this series will amount to "Radiation" lol, as long as the critters aren't randomly changing size in every shot anyway.

Wonder if they'll go so far as having magical or alien creatures? King Ghidorah is from space from what I read.
Pretty sure magic is involved with some of the monsters anyway.

I guess the MUTO's looked pretty alien to begin with wouldn't be so outlandish to include alien origins for things.

Probably the size of a Gigantopithecus.

Or Mighty Joe Young.

...When has that been a thing in a kaiju movie?

Unless you mean that the skull crawlers will be mutating in each shot. The first one we saw in the trailer looked pretty reptor-ish, but then the one that came after the first one looked like he had a bird skull for a head.

They're trying to keep things grounded in reality, which isn't a good thing for movies like these but eh.

And yeah, he is from space though his origin varies depending on the version and era so for all we know this Ghidorah could end up being a mutant, possibly Godzilla's species' natural predator or something like that.

That's because the MUTOs were inspired by one of Godzilla's old alien enemies, Gigan.

I mean they're already doing a movie about an oversized ape, how more outlandish can you get for a kaiju popcorn flick?

The MUTOs seem more like Megaguirus with the bug aesthetic, lots of eggs, and parasite aspect. Also, KG's been an alien twice in Godzilla, once in Rebirth of Mothra, a guardian once, and a mutated neopet once.

Also, Gigantopithecus wasn't that big.

I meant visually. I recall Gareth Edwards saying they took inspiration from Gigan for the MUTOs' look.

Clearly the Dorats were the best version of Ghidorah.

I assume these are recent studies and discoveries, since most sources I've read say the biggest Gigantopithecus species was 10ft tall.

It's not that it's recent, it's that it's based off of some pretty sketchy science. The 3 meter reconstruction is rife with problems.

Here's an explanation someone else gave
Quote:

At the size the skull is said to be (46cm tall) you can't even fit right the biggest known mandible and this is supposed to be an "average" male according to him. He also used a head height to total height ratio of 1:6.5 to get his 3m tall estimate which is midway between male gorillas (about 1:5.5 at least) and male humans (1:7.7) but he cheated with the proportions he gave to his skull because excluding the lower jaw and the sagittal crest, you end up with an skull only 9.7% of total height, very close to the 10.4% of humans.

There's no reason Gigantopithecus to be built that way, not to mention that you can get much more sensible reconstructions like that of Dr. Grover Krantz (which is being sold at ~118% real size on boneclones.com for some reason) which result an skull about 32cm tall based on the same mandible. All in all it seems male Gigantopithecus were around 1.8-2m tall and 200-300kg, they probably were not the super tall, comparatively lanky, bigfeet of Munns but the when the average male is still as big or slightly bigger than record gorillas, it is impressive.

Some people think the skull crawlers are based on the two-legged lizard from the original movie.

http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/Two-Legged_Lizard

Hopefully the skull crawlers get a bigger role than this guy.

Final trailer. Seems a bit spoiler-y so I recommend only watching it after the movie. But that's just my opinion.

I'm super hyped and it seems like Kong is ready to show the Big G who's the true boss and king of the monsters.
