“From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore,” says Vogt-Roberts. “Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island.”

Vogt-Roberts has studied the earlier films closely. When asked for clarification, he starts listing size estimates. “In terms of actual size, our Kong is by far the biggest Kong,” he explains. “Peter Jackson’s Kong was around 25 feet. The ‘33 Kong ranged between 25 feet and 50 feet, I want to say he was 50-plus feet when he was on the Empire State Building. He varied in size dramatically! The ’70s Kong was somewhere between them.”

‘Skull Island’ digs into the mythos of Kong’s homeland. And a key part of that mythos is, well, size. “The thing that most interested me was, how big do you need to make [Kong], so that when someone lands on this island and doesn’t believe in the idea of myth, the idea of wonder – when we live in a world of social and civil unrest, and everything is crumbling around us, and technology and facts are taking over – how big does this creature need to be, so that when you stand on the ground and you look up at it, the only thing that can go through your mind is: ‘That’s a god.’” Pretty big, we’re guessing? “You will see when we drop a trailer,” Vogt-Roberts teases.

"This is going to be the biggest Kong there's ever been," he boasted. "Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape."

That is if you ignore the one from King Kong VS Godzilla (1962) who was like 164 ft tall.
Overall this sounds like it could be the best King Kong movie, or the worst if you don't like King Kong.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Godzilla-King Kong crossover...

Although by the sounds of it this Kong is way smaller, unless that skull is from a baby.
Then again the MUTO's weren't as big as Godzilla and posed a threat.

Anyway I'm excited for this, I actually liked Peter Jacksons one. It definitely dragged and there was WAY too much human actions vs Kong action but otherwise it was enjoyable and built the island up nicely.
The fight scenes were pretty epic too and the game was awesome.

I just hope this one spends less time on s***ty human drama, no more romantic sub plots than necessary please...

Gotta make Kong bigger to compete with Godzilla. Yep yep.

I guess I'll see this one. It can't be worse than the borefest that came before it.

Kong is most likely juvenile or in his teens in this movie. He's probably 100ft tall while walking on all four.
Or who knows, maybe they'll make Legendary Godzilla smaller.

@Pyrus

So I take it that you didn't like the PJ remake?

No, it wasn't my cup of tea. I don't particularly enjoy long movies like that.

I hope to god they don't make Godzilla smaller just to make it more fair for Kong. I'd rather they go this route and stay with Kong being bigger than that.

Yeah that would f***ing suck, Kong being 100ft while slouched over in typical gorilla fashion would be alright I guess.

It'd make for a good underdog sorta fight but then they have to make Godzilla win in the end so...eh it'd be kinda weird. Throw in some other monster and we're alright I guess.
Something a bit more interesting than the MUTO's though. Get some f***ing King Gidorah up in this s***.

I could see Kong swinging from his heads pummelling him.

The main problem is Kong has nothing against Atomic Breath and could they even get away with Kong consuming radiation?
Skull Island would have to be massively irradiated for that so obviously humans being there without turning in to gooey blobs is nonsense.

He does, though.

Assuming he'll grow to be 300-something ft tall like the Big G himself, he'll have a massive advantage in strength. Legendary Godzilla's arms are rather small, and he isn't exactly Godzilla-level strong either. They could also do what they did in the 1962 Kong VS Godzilla movie and make him able to absorb and shoot lightning.

The absorbing lightning was because it was supposed to be Frankenstein, but they thought King Kong made for better PR.

Anyway, King Kong won't be fighting dinosaurs this time. I wonder what animal he'll get to slaughter this time?

I know about the Frankenstein thing. It's hard to be an AVGN fan and be one of few that hasn't watched his Godzillathon. I say that because that's where I first heard that.

You never know, they could make the dinosaurs even bigger this time. Maybe he'll take on an Amphicoelias or something. Or just straight up mutants like the Cloverfield monster.

Had to edit this because most people will probably not understand why I mentioned James Rolfe.

I'd rather he fight something a bit more grounded in reality personally, some completely unreal creature isn't as exciting as a massive version of something that did exist.

To me a random alien or whatever might as well just be a blob. Give us the dino's dammit.

Hopefully that doesn't mean it's just Kong vs humans that'd be so damn dull.

The OP is already saying this movie delves into the mythos of Skull Island. So we'll be seeing more of the natives' culture and how they saw Kong, which was like a religion. Which does remind me of this badass fanart where dinos are Kong's pets. Now THAT's a god.

This is what I want to see in the movie. F*cking dinosaurs serving Kong as guard dogs. :D

Damn that's awesome.

Wonder how good the CG for Kong is going to be, the Peter Jackson version still looks great 11 years or so later.

I feel like Legendary Godzilla's CG wasn't really any better than it so as long as it's not worse quality than either we're good.

Wonder if Kong can do anything to top this epic scene?

Also not sure how I feel about a 100ft tall ape swimming over the ocean...is Godzilla going to go to Skull Island or are humans going to transport Kong to fight Godzilla in the versus movie...
2020 is too far away.

They transported Kong in the 1962 KKvG movie, but I could buy him swimming an entire ocean. All apes can swim, and with those muscles, Kong could be challenged to travel around the world in 80 days, accept it, then come back in about 10 days lol

As for the CGI, I don't particularly care, it'll look good anyway. The 2005 movie had great SFX because:

1. Jackson LOVES the s*** out of Computer Generated monsters and creatures, and special effects in general, so the animators put a lot of effort and love into them.
2. CGI hairy character usually look incredible. Remember Sully from Monsters Inc?
3. Andy Serkis is an amazing actor.

As for that "atomic-breath-to-the-throat"/"Kiss of Death" scene, King Kong already surpassed it with the 1933 and 2005 movies. That jaw-snapping scene is f***ing legendary. The 2005 remake is in general a whole lot better than the 2014 Godzilla reboot.

Also, I really, REALLY hope they use the 2005 design, cause that was pitch perfect for Kong.

Hmm I dunno, I kinda prefer the Atomic Breath scene if not just for the sound effects.

Watching that in the cinema was f***ing amazing, everyone was just like "OH, OH f*** YEAH"

Wonder how they'll explain the lack of knowledge about Kong in the versus movie or Godzilla 2? Since Skull Island is in the 70's.

Humans transport Kong but it would be badass if he just showed up of his own accord like "Nah son, this is my planet gtfo"
Perhaps he'll have been hibernating or something and Godzilla's antics will wake him up.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want Kong to win this because he's like the underdog of the match-up. '14 Godzilla might be slow, but he's got a pretty potent and quick tail, an atomic breath (which could be interrupted since it takes a lot longer to charge than OG Godzilla) and packs 90,000 tons. Kong's just got muscles, and I doubt they'll include the electric powers.

And I think that just like Godzilla, Kong is hundreds or thousands if not millions of years old.
