For me no one can really replace Tim Curry as Pennywise, no matter how far his version is from the actual book.
I mean, he wasn't too far from how the book portrayed him, iirc.

Maybe a bit less serious, but still, it's not like Tim Curry isn't known for making everything hammier, therefore more entertaining.

The thing is also that Tim Curry truly shines when he does his stuff like that, and with that he makes his character which he's playing to shine too.
Oh, and I haven't seen that clip for a while. Haven't seen that Movie but I do love that clip, Tim Curry can truly sing!

Oh indeed he can.

^ That's from FernGully, btw

Tim Curry's awesome at everything, so you can expect him being awesome at singing too.

He can be also pretty intimidating when he wants to.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I mean we're talking about a guy who was going to be The Joker in Tim Burton's Batman movie and in the 90s animated series, yet was considered too scary for the kids.

But anyway, we're getting off-topic, this thread isn't about The Joker, it's about another freaky evil clown.

Darn!? Was Tim Curry to be the Joker in Tim Burtons Batman Movie etc? So in Tim Burton's Movie, how come they replaced him with Jack Nicholson who's also considered scary, since and because of The Shining? Or was The Shining made before or after that one?

The Shining was made in 1980. Tim Burton's Batman was made 9 years later.

I suppose Curry is just considered to be much creepier and more sinister. Jack is a lot more comical, plus Burton had him in mind first, Curry was just another option, or so I've heard.

Oh, I see!
And yes, you're right about both Jack and Tim! But other, I Think Jack did such a good job as the joker, afterall, joker is the more comical but sadistic character afterall.

That f***ing stock scream at the end though... That made me almost fall off my chair from how funny it was. :D Ahh... But it brought up some good memories of hilarious screamer videos from way back when.

Not as charming as I expected. Charming in the Pennywise sort of way.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

Something worth mentioning is that there's a specific reason why they chose 2017 to release the IT remake.

Pennywise's slumber period in the novel is 27-30 years... and 27 years ago was 1990, when the original IT came out.

I also did a little research on Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise in the remake), and found out that he was born in 1990. Whether or not this was intentional... who's to say?

They seem to be playing their cards close to the chest for Pennywise's reveal. I have a feeling that he will have that seductive charm, we'll just have to wait and see. He's definitely creepy looking, but he was modeled after clowns in 1800s because the filmmakers wanted to show him as not having a context of time period, because since he's an eternal being from another dimension, he's ageless.

However, his look in this one is closer to the Pennywise from the novel, at least the colors are. He wears a silver suit with orange pom poms, and he has yellow glowing eyes.
They also didn't want to make him a copy of Tim Curry's from 1990. They wanted to establish this Pennywise as completely different.

Deadline reports that the IT trailer has smashed through worldwide viewing records, in much the same way Pennywise might devour an unsuspecting victim. Within 24 hours of its debut, the IT trailer had already racked up nearly 200 million views, shattering the previous record of 139 million views set by the trailer for The Fate of the Furious back in December.

And yeah, have this creepy poster as a bonus.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I honestly think it doesn't look scary at all.

I really hope someone makes a horror movie without CGI one day. Practical effects are so much more convincing.
Obviously a small amount of CGI is fine but nothing will ever creep me out as much as The Thing in the not-actually-the-original movie.

To me this looks like a movie nobody would care about if the first one and the book didn't exist.
