IT is based on Stephen King's iconic book that follows a group of seven children who were terrorized by the eponymous being that exploits the fears and phobias of its victims in order to disguise itself while hunting its prey. The story is actually being split into two movies, with the first centering on the children, and the second focusing on the same characters as adults, as they reunite to defeat IT once and for all.

Will Poulter was originally attached to star as the horrific clown named Pennywise, but it is unclear if he is still attached. The actor himself doesn't know, saying he was originally selected by director Cary Fukunaga before the filmmaker dropped out, and that he fit Fukunaga's vision, which is decidedly different from the incarnation that is going before cameras soon.

Andres Muschietti is set to direct, with producer Roy Lee revealing in February that the adaptation will be rated R, with production starting later this year.

Director Andres Muschietti's Instagram was updated yesterday with a photo of his director's chair, and also over the weekend with a photo featuring his production office. However, a photo from 21 weeks ago offers a hand-drawn glimpse at his version of Pennywise.

New Line Cinema has been meeting with several actors who have been testing for the iconic role of Pennywise the clown in their remake of Stephen King's IT. One of the contenders mentioned was Kirk Acevedo (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), but it wasn't clear if he was a top contender, or how many other actors the studio was meeting with. Now we have word that Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) is in final negotiations for this coveted role.

"It's such an extreme character. Inhumane," Skarsgård says. "It's beyond even a sociopath, because he's not even human. He's not even a clown. I'm playing just one of the beings It creates."

But WAIT! He actually looks REALLY good as Pennywise.

He wouldn't have been my first choice but he's a pretty good actor from what I've seen.

This was announced years ago. I believe it was originally supposed to come out in 2013 or 2014.

It's an even better book. Pretty long though so unless it's a series they'll be cutting a lot to fit it in a movie. Though there's plenty of weird s*** in there they can easily cut. Pretty hyped for this though, now adaptions of two of my three favourite King novels are in development. It's a shame that production of The Stand is stalled.

I'm also hyped.

I've also read the book and now that we're in the decade where technology has improved so much, it'll be nice to see a movie more faithfully express the book which is far more frightening and dark than the 1990 television adaption. Which by all means I love, I love Tim Curry as Pennywise. but it's a dated movie/series and is more of a enjoyable cheesy horror flik than the actual, dark, twisted, and inhuman sensation that the book is.

No worries. This movie will be separated in two parts.

I hope they at least don't forget and include Patrick this time. I hope they also include the Handjob scene and the farting scenes that were present in the book. Otherwise, It would just be an another disappointment.

Warner Bros. has released a new look at Bill Skarsgård as the terrifying clown called Pennywise in the upcoming reboot of Stephen King’s It. The studio previously released a closeup of this personification of an ageless, otherworldly evil, but the new image gives us our first look at the full head-to-toe outfit. The costume has an archaic feel to it, looking more like Harlequin than a modern circus or birthday party entertainer.

“The costume definitely incorporates all these otherworldly past lives, if you will,” says Janie Bryan, the Emmy-winning costume designer who came up with the look, in an interview with EW. “He is definitely a clown from a different time.”

“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume,” Bryant continues. “The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.”

The Pennywise costume pulls inspiration from several different eras, including Medieval, Renaissance, Elizabethan, and Victorian. Bryant says the colors were also carefully chosen to help Pennywise blend into his surroundings.

“The pompoms are orange, and then with the trim around the cuffs and the ankles, it’s basically a ball fringe that’s a combination of orange, red, and cinnamon. It’s almost like Pennywise fades into his environment. But there are accents to pull out the definition of the gray silk.

“It makes him almost like a shadow.”

I'd lose the skirt. I like the otherworldly almost mannequin dress up look but he also looks kind of silly, like joke wise and yet there's too much sinister points to it. While this might sound ironic considering the character, Pennywise is supposed to have a welcoming appearance to him which hides his true self. This might just be the fact that they're using a more sinister shot of the character here.

But you take a look at Tim Curry and he looks like an average fun clown. His appearance is stereotypical but that's kind of what you expect and he brings out that performance (maybe a bit too much at times) where he is the fun loving clown that is trying to bring children to a false sense of security. Both in the book and the TV series, Pennywise when he talks to George is very polite, respectful and conversational.

I'm slightly afraid that they're just going to make Pennywise into kind of a stereotypical evil where off the bat you know something is wrong. Like he'll talk in a slow, menacing voice. Essentially until his true self comes, I'm hoping Bill's performance as a character is kind of like...yeah I'd like to bring my kids to see this clown. Only to get smacked in the face when we realize the true character he is.

It's just too early to judge, the only shots we have of him is looking all sinister and we can barely even see what the colour of his costume is going to be like because most of it is in the dark. I do love Curry's Pennywise but I do think he strays more from the book portrayal than people realise. He's not that fun loving. Other than with Georgie, most of the time he's making thinly veiled threats when talking to the kids even when he's supposedly being nice. I think even Georgie thinks there's something off about him when he meets him but is convinced by all the promises he's making to him.

I have really high hopes for this. They cast the kid from Stranger Things as Ritchie and if the rest of the kids are on his level then we should get some really good performances from the children, which is obviously crucial for this to work. I wish they weren't changing the timeframe (the kids portion takes place in the 80's not the 50's with the adults being modern day) but w/e it's a minor thing.

I know people aren't too fond of Curry's portrayal for being too jokey-ish, but come on.

He's still terrifying.

For me no one can really replace Tim Curry as Pennywise, no matter how far his version is from the actual book. And the old adaptation of IT will forever be my favorite, but I DO am interested in this project. I know maybe I should be ashamed of that I haven't read the actual book, even though I am getting more and more interested to actually read it, as it's said to be so dark.

I mean, he wasn't too far from how the book portrayed him, iirc.

Maybe a bit less serious, but still, it's not like Tim Curry isn't known for making everything hammier, therefore more entertaining.

Trust me, the Stephen King fans' hype train isn't going to stop no matter how much it takes this movie to come out. It's been mentioned for years, and now we have it. A year isn't much, a lot of people had to wait the same amount for stuff like The Force Awakens, or Outlast II, and they were still hyped.
