Apologies in advance if there's already a thread for this, but I am literally addicted to this game. It's so much fun. It really encourages you to get out and explore, whether that be through driving and making pit-stops or walking. This is probably the biggest cultural phenomenon in a while. I was driving around town today and noticed that half the town seemed to be playing Pokemon Go. There were cars stopped at Braum's (where someone had set up a Module Incense) and players were on their phones in their cars or outside playing the game. I noticed that many cars were pulling over for different Pokestops. I went to the Riverwalk tonight, which is just a walkway lined with shops along the river, and everyone was there playing Pokemon Go. There had to be at least ten different groups of people there playing when I went. It's no wonder the servers for the game have been messed up since it launched. Everyone is playing it. I can foresee them adding a bunch of new features in the near future because of the widespread interest it's garnered. I can also foresee a rise in car related incidents. |

Unfortunately not just that though could be a very dangerous game for kids who get hooked on it since anyone can just lure them outside. Hopefully Nintendo finds some way around that it's really not safe. Given the increase of accidents I wonder if socially something is going to change about how people just wander around with their heads down staring at their phones? Game itself seems cool anyway wonder when they'll add the rest of the Pokémon, can imagine it being a nightmare getting any one you want when all 700 or so are about

This is quite possibly the best idea I could ever think of for getting kids active. This was f***ing genius. Nintendo could theoretically be the reason responsible for kids in America going down a few notches in the overweight/obese scale. That said, I'm curious about playing this myself. The concept of it has me interested. Hell, I don't even have a phone and I'm thinking of buying one just for the hell of it. |

I haven't played this and don't really have any intention to, but this just cropped up on BBC News and it seemed pretty much symbolic of how I think this game will impact society: Pokemon Go player finds dead body in river - BBC News I think a lot of that sort of thing will happen, but also I can imagine a few people running into trouble, by finding rare Pokemon in dangerous parts of town or people wandering off into weird places and getting lost because they look at Pokemon Go and not use their eyes. |

Yeah this sounds like one of those great concepts that could end up badly in many ways. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Do you think this is just a gimmick that'll blow over in time? Or is it more like the first step in a new type of real-world Pokemon franchise? Because there's potential for this to be almost like Pokemon are real (finding them in the wild, training them, battling other people etc), which pretty much makes the main games obsolete. |

I think this is a fad. It will die off like Scannerz. |

Well...Whip, Dab, Hit the Folks, and NaeNae are dance phenomenals and I think it's bigger than Pokemon go.... |

I only know what 'dab' is. I've heard of 'whip' and 'nae nae', but only from the song, I don't know what they actually are. Although that doesn't mean they aren't well-known just because I don't know them, but I've heard way more buzz about Pokemon Go than I have those dances. Edited by Mitas, Jul 10 2016, 06:34 PM.

I don't know. I think the game has enough potential to last a long time. Granted, as it is now, it will probably fizzle out, but I can't see them having this opportunity and not doing more with it. What I mean by that is that in the next couple of weeks, I can easily see them adding more features to the game to keep its popularity from fizzling out. |

I think the popularity will definitely die down, but this is Pokémon so there's always going to be a large amount of people playing it. |

If the popularity remains, other franchises will try it out (like Digimon most likely, or even Yu-Gi-Oh! for nostalgia purposes). I got it on day one for the States, got my Charmander, then realized I actually had to walk around to make any progress. I stopped playing after the first hour or so (of staying inside my house). I'm not that interested in Pokemon to keep my attention on it 24/7 when I'm outside. I'd rather be doing the things I actually set out to do than trying to catch an imaginary Pikachu, but that's just me. I will say the memes this thing has spawned are downright hilarious, though. |

It's weird because I'm a massive fan of the regular Pokemon games, but this just doesn't appeal to me. And it's not like I'm adverse to going out and moving about since I play basketball and walk a fair bit. I guess I'm not that big on phone games and apps. |
