Goku's character in Super

Monaka's mere existence is mind numbingly stupid. "Oh, Goku needs Monaka to motivate himself!" f*** you, no he doesn't. Beerus serves as Goku's motivation, and it's not like Goku needs motivation, he's the self improvement type.

Agreed. Goku doesn't need Monaka not when he has Beerus and Whis.

^Thing is, Goku has fought with Beerus before. He generally knows where his strength is @.tbh. lol

Gender Neutral, meaning I don't want to be specified to either gender. If you keep calling me by gender terms, I'm just going to call you an "it". That's all.

Goku should had at least been familiar with Beerus fighting style so that he can tell them apart.

Beerus was forced to combat Goku in a costume. I doubt he was able to fight in style.

Tbf Beerus believes Goku needs that motivation, he doesn't necessarily need it. But Whis and Beerus witnessed how much more eager Goku was to reciev training after
learning that Vegeta was being trained by Whis.

Master Roshi also thought Goku needed motivation and he thought it better that Goku believed he was beaten by some Jackie Chump rather than the world's greatest martial artist (Roshi himself). Isn't Beerus doing the same thing by showing him an opponent who has surpassed him in their universe who isn't a god?

Jackie Chun worked because Kame-sennin's intention was to point out there was a world full of strong opponents, so he shouldn't get full of himself. Why this doesn't work with Monaka is that there are a myriad of strong opponents Goku has to be excited about, especially now with the prospect of the Omniversal tournament. Monaka is entirely unnecessary.

It's kinda funny how Goku completely ignored Roshi's lesson by the time the Boo arc rolled around. Goku becomes the strongest guy in the universe, only rivalled/surpassed by his own friends and family, and it really shows how much it got to his head. His complete lack of concern when fighting through Babidi's ship, and then later in BoG when he acts all cocky in front of Beerus.

I do agree that Goku has other opponents to be motivated to fight but Monaka is from his own universe, who knows if Goku will be able to fight opponents from the Omniversal tournament whenever he wants. Monaka is like a neighbour down the road with a better car.

I think this was also somewhat evident in Resurrection F. I believe Whis even made a point of it.

I think it's fairly simple as to why some people dislike/frown on Goku's character in Super. It's because most of the people are accustomed to and favor the Goku that was portrayed in Z (barring the Buu Arc). It's understandable since Goku in Z(again barring the Buu Arc), as the series progressed, grew and became a bit more mature. Don't get me wrong he still had that naivety but he showed it, maintained it and Transformed it subtly in a way that gave him an advantage/edge that no others could achieve. That is, he used his naivety to make himself into a maverick Saiyan and a maverick Earthling. But, I guess once they started to downgrade and/or remove some of these qualities of him, people started to dislike him.

Especially if you had grown up with the character through the series.

I think people would complain even more if Goku did that. That moment of filler makes Goku approve of Vegeta's baby man tantrum
