And we learned nothing! Well, aside from the fact that Mai is alive. Black does destroy Trunks's time machine tho, but Bulma remembers the one that Cell came back in time in, so they still have one in reserve! Also, we have a new ending song. It's garbage, but the ending sequence is cool tho.
EDIT: Summary
Herms

Goku Black has arrived in the present via a strange portal. He notes to himself that Trunks travelled through time to this point, then greets Goku and notes the presence of Vegeta and even the God of Destruction Beerus.

Meanwhile, Beerus and Whis’ attention is drawn to the strange ring Black wears on his right hand. Trunks demands to know how Black got here, and Black explains that he followed the path Trunks took through time and space.

Black mockingly asks if Trunks called for him, and if Trunks wants to die by his hands. Vegeta warns Trunks against fighting Black, saying he’s no match, but before Vegeta himself can challenge Black, Goku flies up to fight him (noting that the early bird gets the worm). He’s heard all about how strong Black is and wants to see for himself!

Black likewise says this is an “honor”: he’d wanted to trying fighting Goku in “this body”. Goku wonders what he means by that, but Black says he doesn’t need to know. On the sidelines, Kuririn wonders who Black is, and Bulma explains that he’s her murderer! This naturally leaves Kuririn even more confused than before.

Goku, still in his base form, trades blows with Black for a little while before finally becoming a Super Saiyan (though we see sparks, the characters only refer to this as “Super Saiyan” and not SS2). Black is thrilled to see such power, and Goku can tell that Black is like him: they both get excited to fight against strong opponents. At this point, Black’s ki rises, and he tells Goku to show him more of his power.

The fight continues, and on the sidelines Kuririn says that Black’s power keeps on rising. Trunks wonders why Goku isn’t using the same power as he did earlier in their sparring match (onscreen we get a quick flashback to SS3 Goku blocking Trunks’ sword). Vegeta explains that Goku has a bad habit of not fighting seriously at the start. Likewise, in the battle itself Goku and Black both note how neither of them is using their full power. Elsewhere, Beerus and Whis say Black isn’t half bad, though oddly his ki doesn’t quite feel the same as Goku’s.

At this point, Goku decides he needs to fight hard enough to force Black to use his full power. The fight recommences and Black takes a beating, but oddly he still seems happy about this, declaring that this pain will make him even stronger. Goku meanwhile thinks that Black is kind of gross. Kuririn notes that Black’s power has risen yet again, and as Goku and Black go at it some more, Trunks’ time machine is knocked over from the impact. Black notices the device and hears Trunks refer to it as a time machine, realizing that this is how Trunks travelled through time.

Black blows up the time machine, but shortly thereafter gets pulled back through the portal he came from. The portal closes, and Black is gone, but the time machine is in flames. Whis explains that Black most likely didn’t vanish on his own. Rather, Black was able to come to this era when the power of his “Time Ring” (the strange ring on his right hand) reacted to the distortions in time created by Trunks’ time machine’s passage through time and space. However, these distortions try and return to their original state, similar to the way a wound heals, and so as a result Black’s Time Ring forcibly pulled him back to the era he came from. In other words, Whis says, he basically just ran out of time.

Indeed, we see that Black has now returned to Trunks’ future world. Lying on the ground in some degree of fatigue and pain, Black says that Super Saiyan Goku’s fighting style has been “engraved” into his body, which will make his strength even more perfect. Though Black thinks he won’t be able to return to that era (ie the present) again, Trunks likewise is stuck there now that his time machine is no more, meaning that in the future world none remain to oppose him.

Back in the present, Trunks is having the same thoughts: now that he’s stuck here, there’s nobody in the future world to stop Black from wiping out the remaining Earthlings. When asked how Black’s power when fighting Goku compares with when Trunks fought Black on prior occasions, Trunks says that Black was “a little stronger” than before. A little, not a lot…probably. In that case, Vegeta thinks they’ve got nothing to worry about, since Goku wasn’t using anywhere near his full power (Vegeta also notes in passing that he hasn’t shown his full power yet either). Trunks wonders why Goku and Vegeta are both so much more powerful than before, but they say it’s a long story. Still, Black’s ki was also constantly rising as he fought Goku, so who knows what his limits are?

The Pilaf Gang steps in to extinguish the time machine’s flames (hoping that they can get food in return). With the flames out, the time machine is now nothing but a burnt-out husk. Bulma laments that even with her future self’s notes, she can’t rebuild the machine from scratch all on her own. Suddenly though, she has an idea and rushes off inside to find something. For his part, Beerus seems pleased that with the time machine gone humans now can no longer mess around with time, but Whis thinks they’ve got another problem to worry about now: Black’s “Time Ring” is something which only Kaioshins are permitted to use. However, Black is quite certainly not a Kaioshin. In that case, what exactly is he? It’s still unclear. Regardless, Time Rings can only take you to the future, and then back to the present, since even among the gods it is strictly forbidden to travel into the past.

Trunks asks Beerus and Whis to give him one of these Time Rings, but since Beerus is a God of Destruction (rather than a Kaioshin), he doesn’t have them. Trunks is still worried about what will happen to future Earth if he doesn’t get back there, but Beerus stresses once again that people shouldn’t mess around with time; both Trunks and Black are troublesome in that regard. Whis thinks that Black most likely can’t travel through time at will, and so probably won’t be back. Which means that if they want to defeat Black, they’ll have to go to the future. Kuririn asks if Whis can use his own time-manipulating powers to take them there, but Whis explains that his powers only allow him to rewind time a maximum of three minutes, and don’t extend to traveling into the future.

Trunks is despondent, since everyone in the future was depending on him. However, Vegeta tells him not to give up; there’s definitely a way to solve this! Beerus says that humans are always so quick to say “don’t give up”, but frankly sometimes there’s nothing that can be done; giving up is important too! Bulma finally returns, having found what she was looking for: a capsule which she throws out to reveal…the battered old time machine Cell arrived in! They’ve got another time machine after all!

Goku could have ended the threat in this episode but chose to mess around, which is fine, that's what he does but why didn't Trunks get mad at him? Seemed like the perfect time for somebody to give Goku some harsh truths. Now Black is back in Trunks' world and nobody can currently get there to prevent him from wiping out all life on Earth.

When you beg someone to do something for you, you have no right to question on how they proceed and complete the task.
That's ridiculous. Trunks asked for Goku's help in defeating a genocidal psycho, not for him to use kid gloves with him for no reason other than because it's fun.

Goku's acting like a f***ing idiot, on par with Vegeta's stunts in the Cell saga, this entire saga will now be his fault for screwing around with Black.

This isn't really new for Goku. When Trunks came back to warn everyone about the androids Goku (and Vegeta and even Tien for some reason) all disagreed with the decision to stop the androids before they're activated because they wanted a good fight. Luckily Trunks wasn't there to hear that.

Didn't Goku say that he did it that time because Gero hadn't done anything bad yet? The logic is still awful on everyone's part, but there was another reason. Besides, most people agree that they would have been ready for the androids Trunks described, the new ones being so powerful and Goku's heart virus being delayed were quirks.

I wish that Vegeta had stepped in and went to finish off Black before he got sent back to the future. It'd reflect well on Vegeta's character and it would be a better reason for Black to be spared in this instance.

That may seem ridiculous to you, the audience and Trunks. But yours, the audiences and Trunk's opinion regarding the way in which the task is handled by Goku has no significant weight. If Trunks had any gravity regarding his problems then he would never have come back to the past in the first place. Trunks coming back to the past actually just shows how ridiculous Trunks is in handling his own Tasks and problems. You can blame everything on Goku all you want but he will still keep the promise and finish the task one way or an another like the many times he has done in the past. This why Future Trunks doesn't question Goku further when he gets to know why Goku didn't use his full power to beat Black. If Trunk's is bothered by the way in which Goku is handling his problems then Trunks should ask someone else for help or maybe he should start trying to handle his problems himself.

Goku is also a person who is not going to kill a person just because he is "bad". Goku has always first wanted to try and transform a "bad" person back to a "good" person. In other words, he is not so shallow and myopic, like you and Trunk's/Vegeta/Piccolo, and just eliminate whenever a "bad" person arrives. Goku tries to first bring out the good within the bad. And only resorts to elimination if his opponent is not willing to change.

And how many innocent people will die in the process, all because Goku wanted a good fight?

Uhh, he did. He wasn't strong enough so he came back for help. The help is probably a thousand times stronger than Black currently is, but nahh, Imma suppress myself against this evil dude so I can be entertained. f*** everyone here in danger, and f*** everyone from your time, Trunks.

I'm sorry, what was Trunks supposed to do? He knew that he didn't stand a chance of beating Black himself; that's why he was forced into sneaking around and avoiding him for an entire year.

Trunks told Goku that Black ravaged the Earth and killed Bulma. That's objectively evil. Goku was never in it to try and see any kind of good in Black, he just wanted a good fight. Besides, wouldn't the best way of trying to bring out the good be beating Black down and then talking to him instead of giving him exactly what he wants?

Well that's some nonsense and a half. You have every right to question one's procedure if it doesn't produce the desired result.

He is not a savior. He is not fighting for all the people. It's just that everybody wants him to be a savior and wants him to do things that a savior does. He is only fighting for himself, his family and his friends. And he is fighting because he wants to. Also, Goku after finishing his task always tries to amend the collateral damage that took place in the aftermath. There is always going to be collateral. He can not worry and save all of them. Maybe it's time for the weak to also get stronger and not always be weak and dependent?

When you ask/beg for help from someone you shouldn't complain and dictate on how they should proceed on with the task. If you have a problem with how they do stuff then you shouldn't ask them in the first place. Also, Trunks, Vegeta and rest of Goku's friends/family don't have much of an issue with how Goku deals with the Task that he is shouldered for the sake of them. Sure, they sometimes question Goku's morality sometimes. But, they know that in the end Goku will put aside his desires, do it for them and will finally pull it off somehow.

He did by not powering up to the fullest and killing him. Goku gets to know a persons/his opponents personality through fighting them. That's his way of getting to know a person.

So here comes Trunks, he's already had go through one hell and now he's asking the only people he knows to help him again. He's paranoid as hell now and even went up and attacked Goku earlier. Those in the present future don't seem to understand that, Trunks future sucks. There is no dragon balls, there is no Piccolo, there is no SSj2 Kid Gohan, there is no fun. Every single friend or mentor figure he's had is dead and now his mother is dead. It makes Auschwitz look like a beach trip.

Our so called "heroes" have no idea what it means to live in a world where there is basically no hope. They are like a bunch of children that get whatever they want and any flaws they have are glossed over. Goku is a spoiled man, gets whatever he wants. Ignores all criticism against him and does whatever he wants. Even if that means others have to suffer for his sake. He's had to be told how to do things right in the past, but doesn't. He's immature and incredibly childish.

Seriously, just change up his personality a bit and you would literally have King Geoffrey.

This wouldn't be a bad thing, if it was intentional. But Goku is not treated an anti-hero. He is supposed to be person you root for, who who the victorious hero that you cheer for.

Asking for someone's help doesn't mean that you can't criticise their actions while they're helping you. Out of curiosity, where's the limit? If Goku for whatever reason, decided that blowing up Future Earth was the best way of stopping Black and did just that, would Trunks have to stay quiet? Goku's actions lead to the entire population of Future Earth receiving a death sentence. He didn't know Black would be pulled back to the future, but he shouldn't have messed around with someone who's obviously totally evil in the first place.

No one is saying that you can't criticize someone's action. You can but don't expect them to heed them. Also, it might seem as a flaw to you but in that persons eyes it might also be one of his pro attributes.

If that was really the only option/way then Trunks would without a doubt eventually accept/approve it. Because, either way in the scenario you mentioned all the people will die in earth. It's just gonna differ in whose gonna pull the trigger Goku or Goku Black.

What? We still don't know who and why Black is killing all the humans in the Future Trunks timeline and you are saying that he is already totally evil? That's a really poor, myopic and shallow deduction. Have you ever thought that maybe the humans in the Future Trunks timeline must have really done something bad or wrong due to which it is leading to their extinction? Have you forgotten how the present Androids became good and changed their ways?

Future Trunks has without a doubt gone through a lot but so have the rest of the present Z fighters in different ways. Also, they don't always get whatever they want. They have all have worked hard to reach where they are now. Stop hyperbolizing things. Future Trunks also got some years of peace before dabura and Black appeared. And he has had help from Supreme Kai also just like in the present timeline to deal with the Majin Buu threat. Also, Future Trunks was luck enough to not fight the future androids (alone) for more than 3~4 years, unlike Future Gohan who had to fight and endure them all alone for around 13 years before giving up the mantle/responsibility to Trunks.

''When you beg someone to do something for you, you have no right to question on how they proceed and complete the task.''

Why did you say that, then?

What, you mean the Earthlings that were identical to the ones in the present timeline until the Androids started killing everyone? If you're going to go down that route, you'd have to argue that the humans in the present are just as bad.

Also, Black specifically hunted Trunks and killed his mother (and Mai, in his eyes) in cold blood. You'd be hard-pressed to say that's anything but pure evil. Trunks did nothing wrong; all he was doing was trying to stop Black from killing the entire human race. His personal vendetta makes him evil, even if you do think that all the humans in Trunks' timeline did something bad.

So Future Gohan had it worse than Trunks, I agree. Has no impact on how Trunks compares to those in the present. Goku, Vegeta and everyone else didn't have to fight the Androids alone for over 3 years.

How do you know they are identical and have the same personality? Killing each other could be one possibility but thats not the only one and I never implied that is the crime the earthlings committed in Future Trunks Timeline. They could be punished or required to be extinct for something else entirely also.

How do you know it's a personal vendetta for Black? Maybe, it's his Job.

What? They had to face Namek,Freiza, his soldiers, Ginyu Force and also Saiyans such as Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta. Did Trunks face them? No. Trunks did have a rough life but so did others in different ways. Don't try to shut off the struggles the present Z fighter had to face and hyperbolize Future Trunks problems. Both timelines had a rough times but in different circumstances and settings.

Why did you say that, then?

Because it's true. Trunks is/was lucky enough that his help is Goku(and the rest of Z warriors). Because, Goku at least listens to others and sometimes does put aside his personal desires for the sake of others. If Trunks help would have been someone completely different and unknown other than Goku(and the rest of Z warriors) then there is a chance that the person who helped Trunks might have turned out to be even more worst threat to Trunks than his original Problem.

We would've had some kind of indication by this point if the Earthlings were that bad. It would also undermine the whole point of saving the Earth and humanity that's been present throughout the entire series.

It's his job to seek out Trunks (who did nothing wrong) and utterly destroy him? Even if it's his job, it doesn't mean that he isn't evil.

Yeah, they had struggles, but they had other people supporting them. Trunks was all by himself fighting the Androids and trying to survive for over three years. He had Bulma, but that was literally it, and she didn't fight, so every single instance of him fighting in that period was solo.

Really? All I've seen from the Cell Games and onwards is Goku doing what he wanted and risking the lives of his friends and everyone in the Universe just to have a good fight, or because he's got this sense of 'not belonging' against Fat Boo.

Who would Trunks ask for help? Goku and the others were his only option. He doesn't know anyone else.
