The humans of his universe eliminated all alien threats across the multiverse, leaving Goku with no more opponents to fight. Thus he went insane from sheer boredom and vowed bloody vengeance on all mankind everywhere.
If he's from Universe 6, then maybe the war-ridden Earth did something to slight him, but he couldn't destroy them because they ended up wiping themselves out.
As for what they did, maybe they killed all of his loved ones and he went insane.

That's assuming he is Goku, I'd like it to be an actual, evil version of Goku who went insane or evil because of some reasons but I can see them try to squirm their way out of it by making him a copy or fake or something along those lines.

I can't believe people are still saying he's a Goku from Universe 6. If there was a Universe 6 Goku his name wouldn't be Black Goku and he probably wouldn't look that much like Goku. Also why would Goku call Trunks a saiyan in a way that suggest Black is not one and he also says "What a sad way to end a proud warrior race." Before he tries to kill Trunks. I'm 100% this is not a Goku from Universe 6 and I'm 100% he's not a saiyan. They've made it pretty obvious that he isn't a Goku or a saiyan.

I doubt he's from Universe 6 but Whis did say time travel has unintended side-effects, so it's possible Trunks' screwing around created a universe where something went horribly wrong with Goku.

Kei17, a Kazenshuu living in Japan who knows the in and outs of Dragon Ball better than most, apparently had some inside information that Toriyama needed Toei to give him some basic plot outlines for the Goku Black arc after Super started to annoy him. Around the time the F arc was wrapping up, we heard he wasn't pleased with the show at which point he was starting to write the Goku Black arc (the whole thing was finished a couple of months ago in the script stage).
