I've linked it a couple of times here before, but I recently started a blog, mostly because I feel like I don't write enough as is and would like to start writing more regularly (outside of fiction). I'm not really expecting a lot of people to read my posts or comment right away; I just do it because I enjoy writing, and I'm hoping that maybe the things I write will click with or interest someone. This may seem like a pointless thread, but I really just want to know what you guys (or people in general) might be interested in reading about. What kind of articles do you like to read online? I don't want to fall into the same traps that other blogs fall into. You know, those really crappy articles you see shared on Facebook all the time: "10 Reasons Why Your Relationship Isn't Working" or "An Open Letter to my Mom's Best Friend." I like anything that has to do with social justice, lifestyle, entertainment, and literature. Do you guys like reading reviews, or would you rather read fan theories, predictions, or interpretative articles? I'm working on an article called "Social Media is Ruining Our Lives," and I know that topic is a bit cliche at the moment, but would stuff like that actually interest people at this point? To demonstrate how all over the place I am, I'm also working on an article explaining the symbolism behind the direwolves in A Song of Ice and Fire. I know this thread is kind of everywhere, but the reason why I stopped writing in the first place is because 1) I run out of ideas quickly and 2) I'm just never sure if what I write is actually interesting, or if people want to read it. Thanks so much! thatunnecessaryblog.wordpress.com |

I'd honestly say write what interests you, not the audience. The more it's your idea, the more engaging it'll read, since your interest in writing it will shine through. Although obviously if someone suggests something you want to write yourself, that's the best of both worlds. I'd be interested in that social media article. |

Thanks for the encouragement, Mitas. I need it sometimes. ![]() I've got the social media article mostly written. I'm just giving it a week or so before I post it so I don't fall way behind. |

Since you're interested in social justice, making post on current events is always best. It allows people to express their opinions on such topics shortly after it happens. When it comes to literature, I used to read plays back in college which I really enjoyed. Short reviews/discussion starters regarding new and old plays could be something to do. |

Your direwolves post sounds interesting, I've read some of your writing before and really enjoyed it so I'll give your new stuff a read. I really like fan theories derived from asoiaf, though I've never read any from other books/shows. I like thematic breakdowns in books, especially ones which aren't particularly apparent at first. I can't really suggest anything that you don't already cover sorry, I'm not very imaginative :p. I echo Mitas though in the sense that what interests you is probably the best bet, though I know that motivation also comes from external sources, and knowing you'll have people wanting to read your new creation is a big motivator. |

I can only agree with Mitas. I suppose writing about everything that's currently popular is the best way to interest the most people, but that's completely uninteresting. I've never read a blog, so I've nothing to specifically suggest, but if you stick a link in your signature then I'll have a look every now and then when seeing one of your posts reminds me that such a thing exists. |
