As a massive, near lifelong fan of Warhammer Fantasy and a huge fan of the Total War franchise I've been excited for this for years. Now that it's here I think it's the finest Total War game they've ever made. Anyone else play? I'd love to battle anyone interested. |

I want to get it but low on money right now so waiting for a sale, although I play on a TV so not too sure about the resolution sometimes menus in games are extremely small so it might be near unplayable. Never played any of them but from the series I watched it looks really cool, so much variety to army units in each individual army but then that's stretched even further by completely different factions like the Vampires that raise the dead, among other widely different factions. Feel like I'd enjoy it, every other RTS I've played gets a bit "samey" after a while. Not sure a 2 hour Steam trial would be enough to really get a feel for it. How does multiplayer work? Is it just 1v1 or 1v1 with bots or much more than that? 'cause I imagine that must take forever unless you auto-resolve every battle. |

i'm sure there are bots -- I think I remember medieval 2 and empire had options for that. the most recent one i played was shogun 2, but multiplayer in that, and i'm assuming it's the same for rome 2 and warhammer, has a campaign mode and a battle mode. i did a 2 vs 2 with a friend and housemates back at university. ive also played the campaign a number of times, but it's not like there's much waiting around or anything since if you're in a battle your co-op partner isn't in, you can just give him some of your units to control. you can also both to autoresolve the battle and that's that. |

I wish, it's the first game I've been genuinely interested in for years and I don't even have a pc that can play it. |

Yeah just seems like it could take forever managing your territory, taxes and all that while playing against people online, what if someone needs to go take a s*** I have no real desire to do that anyway would just get rekt by any serious player. Unless it's quick to play series I watched of it the dude did a lot of planning and he knew what he was doing. He had the thing going like at least 5-10 hours. Organizing all the battle lines and stuff looks really fun. Especially if you hide cavalry in trees and make them sweep in to wreck everything, they seem a touch OP. |

First time I played a Total War game online I got mauled. That was Medieval 2. Second time was on Empire... and again I got mauled. Took that as a lesson that I am actually quite a s***ty general and should stick to cheesing the computer A.I instead. My style is to take my time grinding them down with cannons and weaker units, then finish them off with my main forces. |

Yeah it has battle AI's so you can just organise your own battles offline too. The online play is incredible though, the meta is still surprisingly undefined because of the huge variety of units and magic so you get a lot more out multilayer than in, say, Rome Total War where you just need enough elephants and artillery. You get multilayer campaigns too, co-op and competitive. Also there's quest battles which are themed and with special events that you van play offline. The campaigns themselves are fantastic, and as has been touched on the variety of gameplay from one faction to the next is so impressive, and lore appropriate if you care about the fluff. I've already played about 150 hours, which is the most i've ever played any game in so little time haha. I play it on the lowest possible settings though, unfortunately I'd say the main complaint one could say about the game is that because of the huge variety of... everything, the learning curve is very steep. I played a tentative easy campaign as each faction for 50 turns just to get a feel for them before I started playing properly. And tbat's only going to get more intense with more factions coming in as FreeLC and DLC. |

That's exactly why I'm too intimidated to try it. There's too much stuff to learn about. |

That's fair but i'd add that the scope of what you have to learn about also means the game has far and away the highest replay value of any Total War game. I'd liken the challenge and variety to something like an RTS version of Dark Souls but without the nerve shredding frustration. |

The part that appeals to me about the learning curve is the turned based nature of the overworld map kinda section, playing against the AI you have all the time you need to figure s*** out. The battles themselves look fairly straight forward to control if you don't want to do any advanced stuff. Of course you need to have some sort of tactics to go with it but it's not like you need to do quantum physics to lay your units around. The variety makes this one stand out to me, the other Total War games look cool but like...what if I don't want to be Roman's any more Feel like I'd get more attached to certain armies in this game, like Orcs. They seem like the ugly cousin nobody loves so I'll try bring them to glorious victory. |

Reviving this because it's been out for a few months and they've put out a handful of great DLC's for the game. Still wondering if anyone wants a game. I've recently found out I'm terrible online.

I'm perfectly willing to play some time I've actually enjoyed this quite a bit so far and have bought all the dlc sans blood for the blood gods because holy crap why is this still a thing. The magic is interesting to use though I don't find out all THAT necessary if you just want to fight the ai, just get a non magic lord or just pick out buffing spells which change very little. One faction I also think I'll really like is probably the Crooked moon for their focus on goblins and sneaky tactics with stuff like hiding and vanguard deployment. I guess how's the game for you so far? Edited by Tinny, Nov 29 2016, 06:26 PM.

Sweet, we should organise a game sometime that works for both of us... which will be a while for me haha. I'm still really enjoying it but it starts to feel as repetitive as any Total War game. The DLC's freshen it up every now and then though; the Wood Elves arrive in a weeks time, which is really exciting. They look really fun, lightning fast glass cannon armies with forest spirit allies like dragons and treemen. Interesting campaign mechanics too, focused on gathering resources to grow the World Tree and restore their forest homeland, making them the first faction to have something akin to a cultural victory condition. I've been completing campaigns on Very Hard recently but man, I just can't do it with the Empire. The need serious buffing, the power creep has been severe already. Skarsnik and the Crooked Moons are in spitting distance of Reikland and that is such an immediate and potent issue for an Empire player. Very frustrating. |
