Do you think empires are good or bad for society? obviously there are positives and negatives, do you think society will be here today as it is if it wasn't an empire rising and pushing forward or do you think humans would have achieve this some other way without building an empire?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I think we would get to this point eventually but not nearly as fast.

As far as I'm concerned there are no true negatives to an empire it just depends who's running it. It's great for our species, if we're not unified we just fight over anything.
An empire makes us like an ant colony with one or more Queen's, rather than multiple colonies scrambling for the same resources.

One with the right leadership could probably fix almost all the self generated problems we have. Although people wouldn't accept it so there would be war in order to create said empire. Worth it in my opinion, no longer would countries get away with doing stupid s*** just because nobody has the right to tell them not to.

Lord knows who would be a good leader though, power corrupts as they say.

There's no real benefit to them. They're expensive to maintain and require a lot of manpower, time and resources as well. The increased trade you get from them doesn't make up for all the other costs either. No point to them at all.

There's no real benefit to them.
The spread of democracy, laws, technology, medicine, and liberal values aren't beneficial to anyone? Some very broad categories, in which a lot of good can be listed.

Paid off incredibly for the European nations, and their ilk, in the long run, no? Since you're arguing here the negatives it has on an empire itself.

The increased trade has done wonders for reducing wars.

The influence and benefits we have seen from a handful of vitally important empires can not be understated. Sure, there's been some bad, but I think the scales are tipped in favour of the positives.

That said, we have no need for empires any more.

I think we ought to be organized under one empire it would solve a lot of problems if done properly, which of course not all empires of the past have been but the concept is pretty sound.

Currently we have countries full of starving people and other countries that throw enough food away per day to feed those starving countries for a week. It's madness.
A worldwide empire would give people the means and motivation/obligation to distribute resources fairly and improve overall quality of life.

Better than unions where world leaders just squabble over s*** and don't do a fantastic amount to help people. Everyone being so divided only really has benefits to the war economy.

Only on paper Steve. In reality based on previous Empires including Rome, Mongolia and Britain, food, resources and wealth would not be distributed fairly or equally. You can even use the current European Union or Great Britain as similar examples of how not all the countries within the empire would get the same treatment.

Empires always seemed to be having to put down rebellions as well. Even in the relatively modern soviet era people were scheming to get independence from the empire. That costs a lot of money and resources to manage properly and is usually a contributing factor of why empires collapse. As well as being financially unmanageable. British Empire in the 20th century is an example of this.

Good for wherever the resources are pooled/spent, bad for where they're sapped from.

edit: good for the world/humanity's scientific and technological development
