With cloning technology would it be possible to clone figures from history?

What will you do when you get old?

So since scientists have already successfully clones pigs and sheep and probably a few other animals as well, do you think it'd be possible to clone the dna of figures with historical significance assuming we found recoverable dna from those people?

It'd be pretty interesting to clone religious figures like Jesus or L. Ron Hubbard. It'd throw religions for a loop.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Well you can't really clone memories so I don't think it'd work out like that, especially not if they start out as babies most people would look completely different unless they grew up with the exact environmental factors their original had.

Would still be interesting at least.

If Jesus were real and to be cloned I wonder what God would have to say about that? Maybe that's what the second coming is, once we do that God brings about the apocalypse because we done f***ed up.
That would be somewhat hilarious.

Yes and no. What I mean is that whilst you could in theory use their DNA to make a person, that person would be vastly different to whoever you cloned. Their new upbringing would mean that they more than likely wouldn't grow up to have the same characters as they had before. So even if they physically looked the same as before, they would still be entirely different people. Speaking of which, I recall reading a study which revealed clones don't always if ever look the same as the original. Look at twins for instance. Human identical twins also have the same genes, but because those genes are expressed differently in each person, they have different freckle and fingerprint patterns. This happens with clones as well.

Yeah I wasn't talking about sharing memories and behavior, just that many religions that rely upon a "second coming", like Christianity as an example, would be forever changed, because technically they are Jesus.

They'd just argue than you can't clone divine powers.

No

if you had hanky panky time with your own clone, would that count as sex or masturbation?

Apply the same logic as to hanky panky with your twin? :P

I think it would get difficult because how are you meant to know the DNA is actually from that person?
And likewise as others said there would be no memory or historical emphasis to shape them.
