Maybe the Pilaf gang did wish themselves younger before the arrival of the androids when things became hugely different in each timeline. Even though they became children in BOG they still had all of their memories, so maybe even as babies they could survive together. Shu is a dog too so he grows in dog years and could take care of the other two.

Just a passing glance at a portrait of him in his heyday would be fine. However, I doubt they'd do that to the little guy. He's adorable.
