It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Thought I'd make a topic to discuss transfer rumours/official moves over the off-season.

Arsenal have apparently made a £20 million bid for Vardy. I'd be wary if I were an Arsenal fan. He's only really had one good season under his belt. Before this season, he'd scored 25 goals in 97 games, two of those seasons being in the Championship. Plus, even if he does keep up his current level of play, he turns 30 this season. Considering pace is a pretty big part of his game, he's only going to be in his prime for maybe 2 seasons before he starts to decline. I think there are better options out there.

I heard it's only a one year contract.

Good. If we want to extend it, we'll do that.

One year contract suits both parties. Man Utd can either re-up or get out, depending on how his season goes, and Ibra can spend one year at United and then try out somewhere else before he retires. I've heard that he'd like to go to Celtic at one point to emulate Henrik Larson, although not sure how serious he is about it. I think I also heard he'd like to go back to Malmo before he retires too.

Nobody's s***ting on Zlatan joining Man Utd. I'm very excited myself, I just realize his age and that a long-term contract isn't realistic.

It's more the talk of him moving to other clubs in the future when he's only just announced that he's going to United. I just don't get why football needs to be so over-analysed.

I wasn't s***ting on it, just explaining why a one year contract makes sense.

I am super excited about this. Zlatan is probably the footballer that I have admired the most outside of Man Utd for a number of years, so it is awesome that he has been signed up. He has the iconic feel of Eric Cantona to me.

Dimitar Berbatov will still be closer to King Eric than Zlatan will ever be. For me, at least. But I love this signing, Zlatan has an incredible X-factor and brings a ton of winning mentality.

Berbatov had a closer play style but Zlatan has that swagger and arrogance that Cantona had. The kind of personality we could do with, someone a bit more combative. The fact that he's still pretty f***ing good doesn't harm either. Hopefully the likes of Rashford and Martial will learn from him too. There's really little to loose out of this transfer, if he flops then whatever it's only a one year deal and he'll probably be worth it for the commercial side alone.

Knowing Zlatan he won't allow himself to flop.

Mkhitaryan too. Looking like a promising transfer window for United.

Liverpool have apparently turned down the £25 million bid for Benteke from Palace. I hope they don't regret that. Apparently they're holding out for the amount they paid for him, £32 million, but I think £25 million is very respectable for a player that they clearly want to offload. £7 million is a loss, but it's not a major one.

Also, wow, Palace are making moves. Townsend and Mandanda, now Benteke.

I've just been watching Zlatan interviews on Youtube and he's an awesome dude. He's arrogant, confident and talented. I'll be so sad if he doesn't live up to the hype.

I can't imagine that he won't. I read an article today saying that he has already broken the Man Utd medical check record for power. I can't imagine him being forced off the ball as often as a lot of the Utd players can be.

Although I know of Mkhitaryan and have heard that he is good, I've never seen him play really. His stats from last season are good though which will be a marked improvement in a lot of our midfield areas.

I still think we might need another couple of players after him to bulk out the squad. I can imagine that Mourinho will sell a few players on so we need to make sure we have enough so that we aren't fielding weakened teams again like we were this season. I think more defensive reinforcement is needed; with the exception of Chris Smalling (and even that is arguable) most of our first-choice defenders are quite young so an experienced head is required there I reckon.

If Depay actually pulls his finger out and performs as well as he was hyped up to be we may not need to invest in a winger, however based on his performance last season right now I would argue that we needed to invest in another quality winger to play on the opposite side of the pitch to Mkhitaryan.
