![]() Video-Man is the name of several fictional characters in Marvel's 80s cartoon "Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends". The character was originally created in the episode "Video-Man" (S1E7) by Electro as a video game character (since Electro in that series is a game developer) who could come out of the arcade and fight the pesky heroes Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar, and serve Electro for his evil plans. He reappears in "The Origin of Iceman" (S2E1) coming out from another arcade machine and being resurrected by lightning, this time his only purpose being the achievement of more and more electric power. He appears to be much more powerful in his second appearance. ![]() His last appearance is in "The Education of a Superhero" (S3E3), as another version of Video-Man (with the same design and powers), but that somehow isn't remembered by Spidey and his gang. It's the same videogame character who has been accidentally merged with the nerdy teenager Francis Byte, who tries to be a superhero and fights back the terrible villain known as the Gamesman. *In this Respect Thread, we'll look into each Video-Man's feats. This post will feature the original character while the other two Video-Men will be featured in the following posts. Strength Takes down a huge metal door with an explosive karate chop. ![]() ![]() Energy Attacks Eye beams make a huge hole in a metal door. ![]() Eye beams blast through vault door. ![]() Eye beams melt a giant wall of ice within seconds. ![]() Leaves a huge hole in a wall, vaporizing everything that was previously there including that steel safe door. ![]() A few tiny blasts send Thompson across the street and through some wooden planks. ![]() ![]() Intangibility None of the heroes' attacks fazes him, they just phase through him. ![]() He can make his attacks intangible, as we see here since they go through Firestar's wall of flames. They still strike with an enormous amount of strength. ![]() Other Iceman freezes a room with his absolute zero attacks and Video-Man just stands there and takes it. ![]() He is quite intelligent. Here we see him shooting some copper cables behind Firestar to reflect his attacks on the copper to electrocute Firestar. It's also possible that he can just control the direction of his attacks at any time. ![]() Firestar attacks him with a fire extinguisher but it melts off him in a matter of seconds. ![]() Teleports Flash Thompson inside an arcade machine by turning him into code/electricity. ![]() ![]() He can turn himself into raw electricity and travel wherever he wants. ![]() ![]() He can turn other objects into raw electricity, absorb them, and take them somewhere else. ![]()

Origin A Video-Man arcade in the middle of a junkyard is struck by a lightning bolt. Video-Man has returned, stronger than ever! ![]() Energy Attacks/Abilities Absorbs electricity out of some communication cables. ![]() Blasts through advertisement. ![]() He is able to resurrect and bring videogame characters into the real world. ![]() Breaks Iceman's ice trail very easily with some shockwaves. ![]() He still keeps all of his previous powers, like the ability to transport himself as raw electricity. ![]() His beams have a ridiculous range. ![]() Instantly melts Iceman's wall of ice. ![]() Overpowers and freezes Firestar. We'll talk about this power later. ![]() ![]() The more electricity he absorbs, the more he grows and the stronger he gets. After absorbing a recording room from the Daily Bugle, he became twice as tall. ![]() Minions Pac-Man wannabe breaks Spidey's webbing really easily. ![]() UFO minion's armor tanks Firestar's flames, which can melt through concrete. ![]() Pac-Man wannabe can eat through the floor and use his jaws to climb up walls. ![]() A single bite from the Pac-Man minion cuts an arcade machine in half. ![]() He can shoot laser beams from his eyes. ![]() Both minions have a power struggle with Video-Man himself. This is also impressive for Video-Man, since he manages to hold his own against two beings who are almost his equals. ![]() Durability Tanks several attacks from his minions. ![]() Other Turns into an electric comet and flies away. ![]() Turns Jameson into raw electricity and absorbs him. ![]() His attacks go through Firestar's circle of fire and take away her powers for a few seconds. ![]() Takes away Iceman's powers for the entire episode. ![]() Able to shoot a beam of ice. ![]() ![]() Turns Iceman into raw electricity and teleports him to that arcade machine in the junkyard along with Jameson. ![]() Near 20:40 in the episode "The Origin of Iceman", Spidey comments how Video-Man is capable of copying other heroes' powers through the absorption of their brains' electrical/nerve impulses.

Origin Francis Byte, while playing a Video-Man arcade, suffers from an accidental explosion, which fuses him with the videogame character, acquiring all of its powers. Unlike previous Video-Men, Francis isn't a supervillain, but instead is trying to be a superhero. Obviously, he's still a noob when it comes to saving people. ![]() Speed Travels at the speed of light or at lightning speed according to the Narrator, aka Stan Lee. He says it around 16:20 and 20:40 in the episode "The Education of a Superhero". ![]() Energy Attacks/Abilities Blasts through concrete. ![]() Breaks through a huge wall of ice. ![]() ![]() Creates an energy construct of a magic carpet. ![]() Takes down a police helicopter with a small blast. ![]() Shoots Spidey through concrete. ![]() ![]() Takes over satellite through communication systems. ![]() Other Can go back into his human form. ![]() Absorbs Spidey's webbing. ![]() Powers up the weakened Firestar and Iceman with their own heat and ice beams.
