Summary:

At the Son household, Goku’s lost his appetite, only eating half as much as usual. Chi Chi wonders if he has a fever and is possibly dying, but Goku notes that he’s died twice before and this feels different. The next day while out grocery shopping, Goku suddenly loses control while flying and crashes into the ground. Back home, Chi Chi figures that Goku is too strange for an ordinary doctor to properly diagnose, so he should go to Kaio’s for advice.

While Goku thinks she’s making a mountain out of a molehill, he tries to teleport over to Kaio’s planet…only to find himself in Bulma’s house, right as she’s coming out of the shower. Bulma and Vegeta both freak out, but Goku protests he didn’t mean any harm. His next attempt at teleporting brings him to Kuririn’s police station, and he soon finds himself in a wide variety of different locations (including Karin Tower and with Arale) before finally managing to reach Kaio’s planet.

Kaio informs Goku that he’s suffering from “Delayed Onset Disordered Ki Syndrome”, a syndrome which manifests several days after someone has used their ki in a “crazy” way, rendering them unable to control it properly. In Goku’s case, it’s a result of his use of the Kaio-Ken x10 at the tournament. Kaio says he also heard how Goku was predicting things a fraction of a second later at the tournament as well, and advises Goku to stop pushing himself so hard like this. Otherwise, he might cause himself irreversible damage, and not be able to fight or grow stronger ever again. He says Goku should simply take it easy until the syndrome goes away, perhaps by taking care of his granddaughter. On his way back home, Goku once again loses control and smashes into his house, wrecking it.

At a fancy restaurant, Gohan and Videl are eating with an older couple, an academic bigshot and his wife (Gohan is aspiring to become this professor’s assistant). Videl gives the professor an autographed photo of Mr. Satan as a gift (he’s a big fan), while the professor compliments Gohan on the great presentation he gave at the last conference.

Suddenly, Gohan’s phone rings and he goes out to answer it. It turns out to be Goku, who explains that due to their house being wrecked, he, Chi Chi, and Goten will be staying at Gohan’s house for a while. Gohan is fine with them staying and says they will be back tomorrow afternoon. Still, he’s amazed that Goku could get sick! Overhearing this are none other than Pilaf, Shu, and Mai, who are thrilled to hear that Goku’s not in peak condition.

At Gohan’s house, Chi Chi is happy at the prospect of Gohan becoming the professor’s assistant. He’ll be the first Universe 7 Saiyan to hold down a proper job! She doesn’t know how long it will take until their home is repaired, but thankfully they had all that money from Mr. Satan. Goku notes that Chi Chi had claimed before to have already spent all that money, but she explains that if she hadn’t lied about it, Goku wouldn’t have worked hard. They’ve got Goten’s education expenses to think about, after all!

Piccolo says that he has business elsewhere, and gives them detailed instructions on how to take care of Pan, including singing her to sleep (Goku asks if Piccolo sings to her, but he doesn’t answer). If they absolutely can’t handle things, they can always call him. Piccolo starts to leave, but ultimately returns with even more instructions.

That night, Goku and Piccolo hang out with Pan on the roof of the house, stargazing. Goku complains about how bad it feels to go an entire day without training. Piccolo asks if his condition has improved, but Goku says right now he probably couldn’t even beat Piccolo. He feels just like a grandpa…which he actually is. He apologies to Pan, saying that if he weren’t sick he could take her up into the sky. Pan keeps calling Goku “daddy”, and he tries to get her to call him “gramps”.

The next day, the Pilaf Gang prepares to attack Goku with the “latest and mightiest” Pilaf Machine, which they spent all their money from their part-time restaurant job on. Despite all the hype, this giant robot is still only strong enough to take Goku on now that he’s sick and weak…and even then, Shu and Mai think they probably shouldn’t. Nothing good ever happens when they get mixed up with Goku!

As they’re arguing, Pan suddenly wanders up, startling them. Mai wonders how Goku and co. could have taken their eyes off of such a small child…which is precisely what Piccolo is demanding to know, back inside the house. Goku, Piccolo, Goten, and Chi Chi all split up to look for Pan. Outside, Piccolo’s shouts scare Pilaf and co. so much that they decide to get out of there. Unfortunately, after taking off in the Pilaf Machine, they discover that Mai has unthinkingly brought Pan along with them!

The Pilaf Gang panic over what to do. They consider throwing her out, but can’t bring themselves to go through with it. Suddenly smelling something bad, they realize Pan needs changing. This causes them to panic even more, to the point that the Pilaf Machine goes out of control and flies off into space. As all hope seems lost, suddenly Pan powers up, destroying the Pilaf Machine but managing to fly herself and the Pilaf Gang back to safety. The Pilaf Gang notes that they’ve now got another powerful enemy to worry about, and decide to call it quits for the day.

Pan returns home, and when Piccolo discovers her sleeping there, he assumes that she was inside all along. Gohan and Videl return home to discover that things are all in order. Pan’s even calling Goku “gramps” now. Kids grow up so fast! Goku wonders if Pan will be flying next, but Piccolo assures him she’s far too young. Gohan reveals that he ultimately turned down the job to be the professor’s assistant, saying that it would have kept him away from his family too much.

Disappointing how they used Arale.

She doesn't look pregnant.

Also wow, Goku is getting old, he used to go kkx20, now just going kkx10 throws out his back  Only about five minutes in and this is pretty good for DBS only one small problem...

I've seen this done before allot better in Hajime No Ippo with the Dempsey Roll evolution. That move was constantly in the prior arc as a dangerous move that could permanently injure Ippo, his own doctor told him not to use that more than twice and frankly didn't want him to use it at all. Here by contrast Goku already does it and then tells us how dangerous it was. So this problem of being sick/injured because of a crazy move doesn't really feel like it should be here. It's a good episode for DBS but so far it's looking way too familiar to me, and isn't done with nearly as much quality or build up to it.

Edit: Oh hey this went in a different direction. That's pretty good. Pan was pretty adorable, and Piccolo was pretty great. Goku was surprisingly tolerable even so that's pretty impressive.
I think it is more because he didnt master the Kaoiken with the SSJB transformation yet. Dont forget that his 10x Kk SSJB against hit was a 'beta' version.

I am sure that if he used to master that combination that he wont have problems afterward with it.

One thing I'm wondering, why does Kaio mention Goku predicting Hit's moves 0.1 seconds ahead of time as if it was straining to Goku? I guess it might have been mentally straining, but there's no way simply predicting your opponents moves should have irreversible damage to your body, like Kaio implied it could.

Hold up, Arale is a robot? They didn't mention this during Gokuh's visit in Penguin Village...
Arale is a character from Akira Toriyama's previous most popular manga before Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump. All the details about her (including that she's a robot) can be found there.
Well I figured that. I was just surprised since I've never read Dr Slump. Admittedly I hadn't heard of Dr Slump til watching DB for the first time lol

I understand the joke, but in all seriousness, that's the least of the problem.

Gohan turned down the 'big conference' because the job would take away from his family, maybe more specifically away from Pan. But Gohan declined to go to the tournament for this conference where Videl, Chi-Chi and Goku and Mr Satan would be there. Bad writing i guess.

It's not the same thing. The tournament was just one day. If Gohan accepted the assistant job, he would have to be away from his family for longer periods of time.

Looks like they sacked Kaio's original voice actor and opted for somebody else. It did seem like he wasn't putting any effort whatsoever during Super's recording...

To be fair, after his performance earlier during the BoG arc, I can't blame them. In any case he sounds faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than he did during the beginning.

He can always continue narrate anyway so it's not like he'd be totally out of a job.

How come Goku didn't get the syndrome after using Kaioken x20 against Freeza? Or Kaioken x4 against Vegeta?
Well, to be fair, Goku was hospitalized for 2 months after fighting Vegeta, and in filler, he did have trouble controlling his power whenever he snuck out, so there's that I suppose. As for his battle with Freeza, attaining Super Saiyan may have offset the issue, but I definitely think that's stretching it  .

That is stretching it to far. It's reasonable to believe he could only get the syndrome from SSJ/SSJG + Kaioken, as opposed to just using Kaioken.

But the bigger question is why Goku never tried using Kaioken while Super Saiyan before. Kami knows it would have helped out in situations.

I heard he was ill when he was doing King Kai's voice for Super, so he had to step down.

It's because for some reason, MSSJ wasn't calm enough, or something. Either that, or if you want to f*** with people's power levels, you can say that Perfect Cell was over 10x as strong as Goku :p

That makes sense. I was thinking either he wasn't putting in effort because either he didn't care or because he wasn't doing well. Either way it is sad

This has been bothering me for a while now. I understand that Bulma is supposed to be aging, therefore her beauty should be diminishing, but the animators do a really poor job of making Bulma look, well, old. She's as hot as ever, in fact this design is probably one of her more appealing designs, so jokes regarding her sagging breasts really fall flat.
It's more in line with traditional Japanese anime

That explanation just doesn't make sense. They were so calm in MSSJ they were literally living and sleeping in it. You can't get calmer than that. I heard something about SSJ leaking Ki as a reason, though that still makes little sense. And lord if we did that to Cell, Gohan's SSJ2 multiplier is insane. Newer material would have you believe gaps are narrower than we previously established. ;)

Also Pan was to Kawaii this episode, but her being able to fly and concentrate her Ki without any training is kind of absurd. She's a real prodigy.
