To what extent should governments be involved with education? Do you believe they should micro manage every aspect of it or on the contrary, be as distanced as possible? Personally I think they should set out regulations and guidelines and have a department in case of issues like local councils not having enough money to fund the schools but otherwise keep their noses out. Same thing for healthcare but that's another subject all together. Local councils should manage the finances, school places and provide some regulation. Head teachers and senior staff should be setting the curriculum according to government guidelines. As it is now, I believe the department of education controls most aspects and local councils micro manage places and finances. From what I gather, head Teachers have very little authority on their school's workings. |
