Does it matter who you vote for?

Labour, Conservative, Republican or Democrat. How much difference does it really make for the everyday person? Seems to me that one group or more always ends up being screwed over no matter who's in charge. And no one seems to have the power, desire or influence to ever enact real change.

If you tax the rich more then they leave the country or try to evade it. If you tax the poor then they can't spend as much money on consumer goods. Either way the government loses something and we gain very little. It's like this for a lot of different things as well. Top down organisation or bottom up. Left wing or right. At the end of the day it seems we end up with the same results in the long term. There's just a different method of getting there and different groups suffer more.

It doesn't matter who you vote for in America because it's been proven that the system is rigged in favor of the rich and powerful.

It's exactly the same here. With enough wealth you can get away with anything and even change laws to suit your own agenda.

My personal view is that no, it doesn't matter. For the vast majority of the population, you're always going to be living in a society where a select number of people set the rules. Maybe voting for a specific party makes you feel like they're on your side if they're voted in, or gives you a something to hang onto if they don't (e.g. 'if my party were in power things would be different'), but essentially, for me, it doesn't matter. Even if your party gets in power, you personally have little to no say how the country is ran, you're just hoping that your chosen power represents you in the way you want them to. They might, they might not. Things are gonna change, laws are gonna change, the system is going to change, you just have to live your life within the confines that are set out and adapt your lifestyle when those confines are changed.

I think i have said it before, but in NA you may as well be voting paper or plastic. all the ones that get to the finals or whatever are picked already, so it doesn't mater which one wins.

How do we prove the system is rigged? What evidence do you have to prove your claim?

The electoral college and how the parties pick their candidates.

A few years ago Ed Miliband was elected as leader of the Labour party. A party which is funded by the unions. Despite a majority vote by the party in favour of his brother David, Ed won because the union leaders said they wanted him instead. It's supposedly changed now after that debacle and coincidentally after a powerful union leader Bob Crow died.

I can't prove for sure it is rigged, also i can't prove its legitimate. i guess either way you have to take someones word for it. i go by my feelings. yeah hearing stuff woke me up to the idea of conspiracies. i think a lot of people don't even want to consider the possibilities of conspiracy because "why would they lie" or "someone would come out with the truth" or "not that many people could be in on it"

In reference to recent events:

It's the corrupt role of superdelegates that makes the system "rigged" in favor of the candidate with more power and connections.

The superdelegates messed everything up for everyone. When my friend first told me about that I thought he was making an extremely morbidly funny joke...but he wasn't.

Yeah, in America superdelegates mess things up massively.
Not to mention that amount of voters who seem to be missing out on being able to vote is kinda terrifying.
Guess that just means they're scared of Bernie - which in a way says yes your vote does matter, go out there and do it.
If it is going to be that close you might as well add your voice.

Here in NZ for example, I voted for our Green party, and they are at a stage now where we are closer to breaking the 2 party system than ever. The current governing party were not able to get in by a simple majority, they had to work with others. If myself and many others had gone 'eh it doesn't matter' there would be less people saying what needs to be said here.

If there is so much corruption, then who is really in charge?

In my opinion I'd say that it doesn't matter due to it not entirely up to the whoever is elected but it only matters if some extremely close minded idiot like Trump get elected.
