My Improvement as a Writer

So, one of the biggest issues I've had as a writer is length and pacing. Specifically that I've had issues where I don't get much done in my chapters and that's likely a result of me formerly not writing more than a 1,000 words at a time with 2,000 usually being the best I could put out at one time. I still have pacing issues every now and then, but now 3,000 words is close to the normal chapter I put out. For comparison between a story I did two years ago and a story that I have currently ongoing.

Mind you the first chapter I did for my new story was a 900 word prologue that gave explanation as to how a crossover event happened after the fact, intentionally made to be short. There's a large difference in between and I think personally much better content. It's a drastic improvement compared to what I think used to be trash.

Is there a structure to writing stories that has so many words? I can barely write anything beyond 1.000 words and not repeat myself

It depends on the level of detail and your vocab.

But do you have to have a structure from the start?

I don't see why you wouldn't need it. If you don't have structure you don't have much of a story. Even DBZ has structure.

Even kid shows and the like have an order to them even if past episodes have no bearing on future episodes.
