I've had two bad incidents with caffeine that I did not enjoy in which I drank two red bulls the night before my final exam and I just couldn't focus at all. Another time involved feeling the side effects of drinking too much caffeine that had me feeling blurry. Has anyone else ever went through similar experiences? |

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I believe I told the story about how I downed the equivalent of 16 cups of coffee/8 Red Bulls with absolutely no caffeine tolerance on here once. My friend and I did it, in the form of extremely caffeinated chocolate covered coffee beans. One box = 8 cans of red bull. We only read that part after we both ate an entire box in under 3 minutes. That night I blacked out, and was a goof. My friend was angry as hell and I was playing Mr. Tambourine Man on the guitar and hitting my face on things. It was a massive caffeine overdose that almost landed us both in the hospital I think. Thankfully my side effects were more pleasant than his: he got so excited he threw his back out, and got edgy and pissed off instead of fun loving and happy like I did. But we were both topsy-turvy, I fell down the stairs and then collapsed into the side of a wall and woke up on the floor looking up at my (very scared) mom and two friends, Erik and Nick. This was probably... January 1st 2011. I don't remember much of the night but all of my friends that came to my house for a New Years Eve party got snowed in and were forced to babysit us. We made pizza rolls. I tried reading CNN articles but my head felt so screwed that I could not. My friend Nick tried to keep making me read them but they were blurry and it was hard to focus, it hurt my head. I just played guitar. I don't even think I was actually playing anything that resembled music most of the time. It honestly felt like I did a hard drug, seriously. As someone who has experimented with, well, not hard drugs, but, semi-"hard" drugs in the past, it honestly was like that. Except I was more debilitated and probably more of a danger to myself and others than with those other experiences. The caffeine was making me fall down and hurt myself, I awoke bruised, my friend had a massive migraine and threw his back out. So yeah. I guess the intensity was comparable to some of the drugs I've taken in the past, but, I was a lot more uncoordinated, unaware of my surroundings, DEFINITELY a much larger loss of visual acuity as well as all of my other senses, and my ability to reason and rationalize. I think this can be expected with any massive overdose of any drug though, caffeine included. I can say this experience with caffeine has led it to always lead to a degree of anxiety when I drink coffee. I almost always need something to calm me down from the caffeine. Sounds silly, I know. Unless I'm out and about and doing something, I just end up having a panic attack from the caffeine. Even one cup of coffee. I attribute it to this horrible experience I put myself through, and possibly some of my mental conditions that I have. That caffeine overdose was the worst drug experience I've ever had by a mile lol. And this is coming from a guy who's had a bad acid trip! Seriously, I couldn't sleep all night and don't remember anything. I ended up waking up 12 hours later, headache, and eating cold pizza rolls out of an old ice cream pale and then falling back asleep with them still on my face for another 8 hours. It wrecked my body and I felt like s*** for almost a week. My friend couldn't skateboard for two weeks because of how badly he threw his back out when he was coming up on the caffeine chocolates. When I drink too much caffeine, I usually just get a headache or become even more tired/groggy. I've never had an insane amount of caffeine at once, though. I think the most coffee I've ever had in one day is about three cups, so I'm not really an expert. I also don't drink soda. Like anything else, too much of something is always bad for you. Caffeine, sugar, nicotine, alcohol, marijuana... Regardless of what the substance is, use caution. |

I bought a pre-workout with an insane amount of caffeine in it (or so I think), and it was awful. I felt like jumping off walls, I got the Hershey squirts like nobody's business, I felt severely dehydrated, my stomach got cramped, I couldn't even finish a workout. I thought I was going to go into shock, despite eating and drinking beforehand. I swore off that particular pre-workout. |
