I don't want to take medication

Crazy Awesome Legend

The side effects of medication put me off ever taking it again. I don't like feeling drowsy all the time, I don't like gaining weight and I don't like the very small risk of heart failure and death.

Why am I bringing this up? Well recently I've felt my mind gradually slipping towards the state I once got myself in many years ago. Instead of sending me to a mental health facility they had me speak to a psychiatric nurse for counselling every three weeks. It worked. My paranoia, the voices in my head and my delusions lessened. But almost as soon as I stopped visiting him, I felt myself going back again. I try to socialise, get a job and move house since I believe the problems are caused by prolonged isolation. However I'm not doing enough. I'm still stuck indoors most of the time with a family I don't care about.

I'm just venting. I don't really want advice. I already have all the answers since I am so great.

What will you do when you get old?

That's not medicinal that's medical quackery.

Yeah, meds suck. A few years ago I was diagnosed by a few doctors with severe depression and they tried to put me on meds and make me go to some group classes. Never bothered with that s*** again. Waste of time.

Lie to whoever tells you to take those meds. I've been doing it for years, cause some medications don't help, and others just make everything worse.

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I can acknowledge that the meds I'm on definitely help me overall, but I totally understand your sentiments. I really dislike the two major side-effects of my medication: sleeping a lot (a side-side-effect of that is that it's near impossible to get up instantly upon waking, it can take me up to 60-90 minutes to be able to shake off the drowsiness and fully wake up), plus over-eating, which leads to weight gain.

I've been trying to take steps to combat those side-effects as best I can thought, although I could probably do with having a bit more willpower where food is concerned.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah medication generally seems pretty s***.

It usually fixes your problem somewhat...by creating other problems.

So you can't socialize properly? Okay well take these meds, they'll help you socialize but oh yeah you'll be stuck in bed most of the time unable to socialize anyway.
Genius.

Sitting down and talking to people about stuff always seems to work better to my knowledge, unless you're talking things like schizophrenia.
My mother has struggled with depression for like some 20 odd years and only last year or so did they get her to a counsellor. Helped massively, she still has depression and needs meds but she can deal with things on her own.

Does it really cost less to produce all these pills than to just train a few counsellors and such?
In the end surely it impacts the money situation more when people are struggling to get to work due to medication. It sounds like a much more valuable thing to invest in people who can actually help considering the number one mental health problem in the UK is depression I believe, which obviously has many links to other issues like anxiety.

I totally get what you're saying. Honestly, I hate being on the medication I'm on, but it does work.

I think it's important to find a good mix between counselling and medication. I doubt many people would react perfectly to either one by itself, but using them together means that you're tackling the problem from two different angles.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

The docs recently gave me medication for my extreme PTSD because nothing else was working, and it was epilepsy medication. It was supposed to help for a "mood problem" but all it did was damage my kidneys, cause kidney reflux and cause me to piss blood and awake in extreme agony. I don't take much of anything anymore, other than Valium for seizures.

MGD.

As a person who suffers from social anxiety (it runs in my family) & mild tinnitus, I personally tend to use herbal medicine such as Chamomile tea (for relaxation) or Ginkgo biloba tablets. The only medication that I take every now and then would have to be: Melatonin (for insomnia), and Stress Tabs (for when I'm feeling edgy). Where I live at the moment, "other herbal alternatives", which help me relax long-term, are not recommended due to severe consequences.

Maybe you feel your brain is fried because you're not on meds anymore.

I'm on meds because without it I had way too many thoughts in my head at one time, I could never think of the correct word to say.

The meds I'm on helps me think clearer and it also helps me deal with anxiety a lot better. I usually take them whenever I go to sleep so that the effects kick in when I'm sleeping.
