So if we're debating religion, would you use the argument that God doesn't exist because Christians are stupid? No. Because that would be making a generalization to support your claim. Rather, you would say something like, "Christianity can't be correct because God is not all-powerful, all-knowing, and loving like the Christian Bible claims." You haven't used any logic in your posts; you've just made generalizations. |

Question. Does it make me sexist if I'm not a feminist but still support equality? |

Okay, but yes though. She is for equal rights between genders. If you believe men and women shouldn't have equal rights you are sexist. That is the definition of sexism. No, see this is the entire issue. What feminism exactly is these days is very vague, people have different opinions about it. See, in my opinion you can't be for equality and not be a feminist, because feminism is all about equality between men and women. The name has just become obsolete in Western culture. If you believe men and women are equal you are not sexist, simple as that. Whether or not you are a feminist depends on what you believe a feminist is. I myself choose not to associate feminism with today's "feminazis" since that would be disrespectful to those who originally carried the title of "feminist" and fought for women's rights to vote and study, as well as the women today who still fight for those rights in non-Western nations. |

All I know is that I have never been an anti-feminist. I've never really associated myself with feminism beyond equality for all either. However, I have seen many types of feminists and I despise the most extreme of them just because of how idiotic their "motives" can be. |

Me too, jeez am I learning things about myself today! Feminism is literally about equality between sexes, both legally and socially. That term is used because 1. it links it to a social movement that has already had a lot of success in the past in a lot of areas and 2. in most cases men are the privileged sex in society and it's women who still need the leg up. Yes we know there are cases where this isn't true, such as custody rights for children etc but on the whole men have a better deal than women do. |
We'll never be those kids again

This means a couple of unsavory things, though. 1. If you believe that men and women are already more or less equal, you're sexist. 2. Please ignore all the ways in which women are treated better than men. Yes, they pretend they don't like that either, but it's very rare for someone calling themselves a feminist to actually focus on those areas. As much as people like to pretend, feminism is about furthering women. That's not to say you can't support both sides, but if you're only a feminist that's all you're doing. The only purpose saying something like this serves is to make it seem like feminism is literally the only way for anyone to be a valid human being. Trying to make anyone who's not on your political side feel like they're against something that every real person is for is a Nazi-tier thought process. |

"If you believe that men and women are already more or less equal, you're sexist." No... What? By treating them as equals and not discriminating them based on their gender is the exact opposite of sexism. Believing that they are not equal is sexism. "Please ignore all the ways in which women are treated better than men." I am not, you clearly haven't read a single post in this threat. Feminism is about equality between genders, that means men's rights as well. "Yes, they pretend they don't like that either, but it's very rare for someone calling themselves a feminist to actually focus on those areas." Is it though? Or are you just getting that from Reddit and 9Gag? Have you ever met someone in person that told you they were a feminist? And were they like feminazis? The Internet loves to cherrypick the worst feminists, make them bigger and make fun of them. I very much doubt that you've met dozens of feminist advocates, and that most of them were sexists. Feminism is not just about furthering women, it's about making both genders equal, and to eliminate sexism on as many levels as possible. |

I don't actively class myself as a Feminist, I just go with the broader term of Egalitarian. All my beliefs match up with the proponents of Feminism, but I feel no burning desire to label myself as one. |

I call myself a feminist because the problem is the lack of power women have in society. Yes it's gotten a lot better, no it's not as good as it could be. Talking about Western society here... even more reasons to label myself as a feminist when we're talking about other countries where the situation for women is truly miserable. Don't mix up feminists and feminazi guys. :/ Big difference. |

But you can't really be part of a movement if you're okay leaving things as they are, therefore anyone not wanting to change how either gender is treated must be sexist by her definition, since thy're not feminists. Besides, it doesn't matter if you say you're a feminist because you want equality for each side. By definition, it's for women. It's like me saying I'm a Democrat, then supporting and voting for Republicans. But Democrats still mean well, so I just take the title. Also, kudos for completely ignoring the fact that this quote merely serves to bully others into agreeing with her. |

A lot of people in this thread clearly don't even understand what feminism is. Looking at you, Frost Demon Mint and Gearfried. You offer absolutely no proof to bolster your claims except "because I said so." Where have you been looking for feminists? On Youtube? Do some research on the history of feminism and intersectional feminism and get back with me. I'm not even kidding. I implore you not to respond until you've done so because it's pointless to debate something that you have no basic understanding of. Edited by Doggo Champion 2k17, Apr 11 2016, 07:22 PM.
