Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Someone accidentally kills your pet?

Had my bearded dragon out yesterday, he likes to hide away under stuff so I imagined a delivery guy holding a box coming in one day and stepping on him.

What would be the appropriate response to such a thing?

Obviously if it was a job related thing like a delivery person then you could probably sue them for negligence but if it was just a friend or whatever that accidentally killed your pet...what do you do?

Hit them?
Phone the police?
Sue them?
Demand they buy you another?
Demand they commit seppuku for their crime?

I have absolutely no idea.

I'd probably just get mad and leave it at that...

What would you even say to the police? "This guy stepped on my pet and killed it...do stuff to him, policey things"

What will you do when you get old?

Did this happen? If it truly was an accident, you'd have to move on and accept that. If you could prove that they intentionally killed your pet, call the police, you also could sue them.

I know if someone intentionally killed my dog I'd kill them, no matter who they were.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'm pretty sure that legally there is nothing the police can do to prosecute someone for accidentally killing an animal (I don't think there should be either). I also don't feel like you'd be morally entitled to seek personal justice through violence either. Like Richard said, you'd just have to accept that it happened, regardless of how unfortunate the event.

"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

That is assuming it is accidental. There have been plenty of cases where family pets have been killed "on accident" and the people were caught on camera killing the pets intentionally. Bearded Dragons are large enough where if the delivery person did step on them, it is more likely to have been on purpose than on accident. It's hard to miss a 2ft long lizard sitting on your porch.

Colourful language exists for such misfortune. If it was someone I knew then it would take me a very long time to be in the same room as them, if ever; depending on how they reacted to killing another living thing.

If they accidentally killed it, how could I get mad at them? If it was a situation like the one you were in, I'd be mad at myself for letting my pet go and hide where people walk.

I've had 2 or 3 of my pets killed by my neighbor and unfortunately the cops didn't seem to care much... It still baffles me to this day considering the ways my dogs died were pretty horrific and like torture. Hope none of you have to go through that.
