The Lord of the Dark

This is one story where people are REALLY mixed. There's people that hate it and call it one of Spidey's worst arcs and there's those who love it and call it one of Spidey's best arcs. There's also those who defend it mainly due to nostalgia.

I'm personally on the middle. I appreciate the sillyness of this arc, it's fun. It's full of bulls***, but ya know, it's a Spider-Man. With Venom. And Black Cat. And Cloak. And Dagger (who initially *SPOILERS* dies). And Morbius. And Deathlok. And Firestar. And Captain America. And Iron Fist. And probably someone else I'm missing. Who are they fighting? Well, the guy whose name's in the title, of course! Good ol' Carnage. And Shriek. And Doppelganger. And Demogoblin. And Carrion. And probably someone else I'm missing. And I'm not doing this for jokes, that is literally how they introduce nearly every freaking character in this series.

This FOURTEEN-PART series (Yeah, it's unecessarily long) is among the most violent ever shown in Marvel's history, as Carnage basically inspires all of New York to go crazy and kill each other. And you see all the blood and violence. We even get to see Spidey get mad, and that's when you know it's not funny anymore.

This arc is still really fun, with some great jokes added in the mix.

That Venom bit is my favourite.

So, what are your thoughts on one of Marvel's most hated, or perhaps most beloved comic book series ever?

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

There was some Spawn rip off with a living cape called Night-watch

I really liked this series when I first read it, but I'm not so sure anymore. It's a very 90's style comic in that it seems like there's a definite effort to be gritty, which can work in its favor and against on occasions. I do think that it's a very nice read though, even if it's not that good, it does get Spiderman across very well and Carnage

I remember Night***ch, but he was nothing like Spawn, minus the costume. I don't remember him being too much in Maximum Carnage. I would've loved to have Spawn in there, though. I'd like to see Todd McFarlane do a crossover between Spawn and Spidey, that would be epic as Hell.
