Firefox Favourite Manga Dragonball	How feasible is it to construct a nuclear fallout shelter? I imagine it's expensive, complex and takes a long time to build. Plus the planning permission must be a pain the a*** to get. I live in rented accommodation so I'd have to do it on the sly. Would probably get caught. I really want one though. Not just in case of nukes but pandemics or aliens too.

FireFox Favourite Manga Fruits Basket	You would need something that would stop radiation leaking in, which would be lead, the problem with it is that lead is quite toxic, you wouldn't be able to build lead walls under soil and the walls would have to be quite thick. Once you have done that, your next problem is going to be food and drink, as well as air recycling, but if you can sort all that out, you'll be safe, crazy in the head, but safe. Pandemics are easier to survive, as for aliens, depending on their intentions, not much will protect you, sorry.

I'd say get a HAZMAT suit, lots of lithium and hope like hell you're nowhere near ground zero.
