Open World Games; I need recommendations

I'm a big fan of open world games as I've played games such as Skyrim, GTA V, and Fallout 4. Anybody up for suggesting their favourite open world games that I should check out?

I'm aware that Oblivion is worth playing and is similar to Skyrim in terms of graphics as well as breathtaking music.

Do they have to be current? Cause my all time favourite ones are these two.

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Red Dead Redemption is always a good choice for it's western setting and great story. Still one of my favorite games in general, and the gunplay feels great here, especially with the dead eye stuff you can pull that feels so right in the setting. The horses, gambling, the bounty system. It's hard for me to think of something I dislike here.

Sleeping Dogs (while I haven't finished it), is also allot of fun, playing an undercover cop and such, the story ain't half bad, and I enjoy the emphasis on hand to hand brawling there is rather than the usual shooty bang bang gameplay, though there's decent amounts of that as well (Even if the control scheme for it is utterly alien to me on keyboard, I did get used to it after a while). Plus Hong Kong is soooooooooooo beautiful. American cities look dull by comparison, to where I kind of hope open world games in general just try cribbing China's cities instead of American ones.

Why can't more games take place in Hong Kong?

Watch Dogs... is a tentative recommendation. I include it entirely because of the hacking mechanic, it's otherwise a very average game, but the hacking is allot of fun to use in that game. Especially if I can end up just taking out a gang with nothing but my phone and CtoS. The original sound track is also good (unlike the radio). Honestly I think to get the most out of this game, you want to basically use hacking whenever possible. That said it is really average aside from that so it's not a solid recommendation.

Oblivion actually has more content than Skyrim.

The Witcher III is quite good. Might be a bit story heavy though.

A lot of people like the Far Cry games.

The Division is another.

The Monster Hunter series is cool as well.

Right now I'm playing The Division which is open world post-apocalyptic New York. It's pretty fun even if you have to walk everywhere (or fast travel).

You could also check out Mad Max, the game that came out last year. Looks pretty fun.

Oblivion as Pelador has said has more content and has a larger emphasis on the RPG aspect rather than the Action aspect. Skyrim is more an action game than an RPG. Oblivion brought some features that were cast out in Morrowind back, with Skyrim taking the ones brought back out and then some more. The scenery is that typical fantasy you know, but as someone who played the PS3 version back in the day, I was awe-struck by the beauty of it. To the point that I had to take a moment and just bask in it, I can't say I did the same with Skyrim, which was dull and drab in comparison (even if it has a higher poly count).

As for one I can recommend, I can't say I can give anymore lol.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I'll second Sleeping Dogs, that was a really great game.

Sleeping Dogs is another game that I forgot to mention. I played it like 2 years ago but never came around to finishing it due to my circumstances at that particular time.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

You could probably pick up the Definitive Edition for cheap at this point, awesome game.

I honestly prefer it to GTAV the gameplay is just so much more fun to me. The map not so much but the fighting mechanics are cool, especially the context based takedowns, shoving people in to vending machines and whatnot.

What kind of machines have you got to play these games on also?

If you have a PS3 you could check out Shadow of the Colossus. It's a little dated at this point but still awesome. Though it's not open world in that you have missions and stuff it's basically just a big map and you have 16 big bosses to take down. Soundtrack is amazing.

Just Cause 3 is another, can't vouch for how good it is though. It looks like a fun game to play now and again, blow stuff up with ridiculous weapons and physics based fun.
Definitely not a story driven game but might be good if you want some mindless fun.

Dying Light might be okay if you aren't fed up of zombies. It's basically Dead Island but with parkour again kind of a poor story but the gameplay can be fun.

There's also the InFamous series if you have a PS3 or PS4 they're pretty cool too, big map, special powers that kinda stuff.

The best games have been mentioned already though. Oblivion and Red Dead Redemption are awesome.
If you have a PC Oblivion would probably be great as it doesn't run too well on consoles, you can get the GOTY edition for like £15 on Steam which has the two DLC expansions, there's also a deluxe edition for £20 with some extras.

I found Oblivion so much more fun than Skyrim and it looks a lot prettier in terms of colour...the human characters look slightly potato-like but everything else is awesome.
The map is quite huge and the Shivering Isles expansion is nearly as big as the base map I think, arguably the most content out of everything mentioned here.

Oh my god how did I forget Infamous?
That fame was brilliant, the first one is more or less a shooter with allot of parkour elements and electricity powers. Being a super hero and all that, but it's been a long time since then.

The second game is a ton of fun, pretty good story, with a few twists and turns here, there's more brawling which is great and the powers you gain over the course of the game make for some good gameplay.
Haven't played 3 though, is that as good as the first two?

I haven't played much of the first 2 but Second Son is quite cool. The other games sound like they have better stories to them but the powers in Second Son are awesome.

The karma system in it is somewhat iffy though like it feels really unnatural to pick the bad side of things like "Why the f*** would he even do that?" kind of unnatural.

Overall it's a solid game. The visual effects in it are great, the Neon power looks especially cool.

Oh no, that's a problem in ask the games honestly, being evil involves all but cartoonishly twirling your mustache.
I'll try it out, at the least the powers should be fun.

Yeah very few games actually give the characters motivations for being an evil douche...why add in a karma thing at all

The powers in Second Son are great you get 4 I think and I can't really say any of them are definitely the best ones, there's reasons to use all of them depending on how you play it's fairly well balanced.

Kinda hope they do another game now forgot how enjoyable it was.

What will you do when you get old?

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - Cross between Dark Souls and The Witcher series, definitely the best console/PC game to date.

Sleeping Dogs - Really nice game if you like martial arts crime thriller movies like Internal Affairs, Kung Fu Killer, Special ID, Firestorm, The Enforcer, and Lethal Weapon. If you've ever watched any of those movies and liked them, you'll love Sleeping Dogs.
