Crazy Awesome Legend

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-35813973 I welcome the sugar tax, especially since the money is supposedly going to school sports. Not sure about the academy thing. I don't know if taking authority away from local councils is a wise move or not. Although it would free them up to concentrate on other areas and they'd have more money to spend despite cuts and lay offs. Also not sure that giving corporations all these tax breaks in sensible or not. On the one hand it encourages more businesses to come here. But then they never pay as much as they should be paying. The money doesn't trickle down enough. Also it means we're going to be moving further towards a service based economy when we probably need more manufacturing. Having said that, manufacturing is a much more fragile industry. Steel in particular seems to struggle when demand is low. But then more corporations means more gentrification which means higher living costs. I dunno. I think he could have done better and distributed the wealth more evenly than he has done. |

I don't really know enough about economics and politics to have a 'proper' opinion on it, but I do like the introduction of the 'sugar tax'. I disagree with claims that it creates a 'nanny state', since I believe that the state of the UK populations obesity and general health problems show that people can't be trusted to be responsible in that respect. They aren't banning them, they're just trying to make them less appealing to people, which I'm all for (and this is coming from someone who will almost definitely be affected by the tax). The fact that the money is going towards doubling the budget for school sports clubs just makes it that much better. |

"Then you've got the chance to do better next time." "Next time?" "Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is." | |
