Lack/Buzz of Fandom surrounding certain Anime

Thala na Gethu!

Have you felt distinct lack of fandom surrounding certain exceedingly good anime as....unfortunate, while pedestrial, run-of-the-mill shows that are blessed with buzzing fans all-over the place (social media) as bad joke?

I personally feel good shows deserve its own set of dedicated fanbase. To ensure "quality control" & encourage anime industry

Thoughts?

Do you have a comparison example of what you're talking about? Like what good anime doesn't have a fandom vs what ok show has a great following?

I think I understand what you mean. I've felt that way about other television shows and even movies. Specifically Anime, i couldn't tell you. I usually just watch what I watch and let the fandom just be whatever it is.

In terms of overrated fandoms, I think SAO is a horrible anime - the light novels are a bit better but the anime at best (imo) could be called mediocre. Yet it has a pretty massive following.

Honestly I'm not sure there's a single fandom that's been well and truly earned for it's quality, to where I think it may have little to nothing to do with quality if it gets popular or not. Even DBZ, Star Trek, and Star Wars all have fandoms that far exceed what you'd expect with it's level of quality. Meanwhile I have my doubts towards whether most people here have even heard of LoGH much less watched it.

Generally if "good shows" are gonna get large fandoms, then I think people's tastes will need to be refined and people will have to look closer at what they watch rather than simply consuming it. That said, what we consider "good" easily changes from person to person, there are people who unironically enjoy SAO, Asterisk War, and DBS for example. And again, people enjoy various things. Not always things that you or I will get.

I think getting a fandom is less a question of quality and more one of being at the right place at the right time with the right content that people at the time want.

Oh it definitely seems to be.

The most mainstream stuff typically gets huge fandoms just because they come out in a season where there's just nothing...that great.

I doubt anyone from when I think SAO aired really heard or cared about Humanity Has Declined even though it's awesome, not that it's the best anime ever or anything.
Currently on Crunchyroll SAO has nearly 3000 ratings and HHD has not even over 100.
Now SAO did have a second season and many more episodes but still it's pretty clear many anime just completely go under the radar because they weren't the biggest thing going.
There's also Log Horizon which from what I hear is vastly superior to SAO in virtually(ha) every area but because they have similar concepts and I think SAO came first, people s*** all over it because OMG COPYING SAO WHAT TRASH.

I have no idea what other anime came out late last year when One Punch Man was airing because the anime community was pretty much just OPM FOREVUR

It's kind of annoying really because it's hard to find shows that are really good all around and any shows that are will get s***ty ratings and be cancelled because they weren't action packed and gory enough.

"Lol it's just copying X anime by being about fighting/superpowers/supernatural creatures, it's s***!"
"Omg this sucks it's not about fighting/superpowers/supernatural creatures who the f*** would watch this!?"

Those are like the only two messages blasted about other anime <_<

...I have no idea what you're talking about. Just look at the monogatari series, plenty of episodes have large amounts of talking over fighting. Heck more than a few of the climaxes avert a fight entirely, like when Shinobu and Arararararararagi went to fight future Shinobu. Also gore works against it most of the time because censorship. If anything I'd say the problem is (broadly) how all these adaptations and anime have a good portion of harem elements.

Also I didn't hear anything like that personally, if anything what I hear is basically "Watch Log Horizon, it's like SAO but so much better."

Also I can think of an anime that was brilliant and had plenty of episodes...

I did the improbable and actually finished Legend of the Galactic Heroes recently. It's probably the best anime series I've seen, and that's saying something because I've seen a lot. It's definitely not for everyone though.

It's dialogue and exposition-heavy, often quite slow-paced, and there's a huge cast of characters and even the minor ones are heavily fleshed out and layered. Consequently, the focus isn't always on your favourites, e.g., Yang Wenli or a Reuenthal. The pay-off is awesome and at the end you feel like you've genuinely watched the best anime has to offer, but even for someone who was into it a lot, it can be a bit of a chore to watch at times.

The only other anime I can compare it to would be Monster, which I also rate very highly. But understand that for the same reasons, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Monster is a fantastic anime, I loved the manga and for once the anime lived up to and even exceeded the manga. As for Log Horizon, most people tend to agree that the characters are better fleshed out, especially the female, as in SAO by season two every female character is essentially a helpless waifu in distress. -.- The only edge I give to SAO is animation as it has a bigger budget obviously but that's all SAO is good at lol - its pretty to look at.

Well those who like non fighty anime are in the small group and make a lot less noise :p

It's nice when people branch out and experience story focused series but most people seem to be stuck on gateway anime and still to this day say DBZ and Naruto are the best things ever...when they've watched only one anime(aside from things they didn't know were anime like Pokémon)

I think the .hack//Sign and .hack//Liminality are pretty underrated animes. They pretty much lack the fandom that they are supposed to have given the fact that they are highly original and pretty much the first pioneers to explore anime's which takes place inside an online game. While many people know about animes such as Log Horizon, Accel World, RWBY, Sword Arts online and other similar animes etc ,but, what they don't know is that most of them were actually based off or inspired by the .hack// franchise.

The other anime series which I find lacking the fandom is noir.
