Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I give Microsoft a lot of s*** but, this is awesome.

http://www.theverge.com/2016/3/14/11222370/microsoft-xbox-cross-network-play-pc-ps4-gaming EDIT forgot to post a link in...

I hope Sony listen to fans and go for it too, I see no real reason to not allow it for some games. Obviously for shooters it's been proven to be unfair when it involves PC because aiming is much easier with a mouse but there's basically nothing else where that's going to be an issue.
RTS games I guess, not that there are many on console anyway.

But yeah this will be cool, wonder if it will be random or if we'll be able to go in to teams based on our platform?

Also wonder if there will be some way to message other players in games then? Surely there'd need to be that or at least some way to report others unless there won't be cross platform voice chat, which would be kinda lame.

This could make platform wars take a very interesting turn...

I think it's an excellent idea, for a moment I was thinking Phil Spencer might be secretly working for Sony because his allowing no reason to buy an Xbox.

Good job on Microsoft for catching up. Sony have been doing this with PC for a while now and, iirc, Microsoft declined to do this last generation. The fact that they're pulling it out now is a move of desperation, imo.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

This is a really cool idea. I wonder how it'll effect sales though, since I'm sure there are multiple cases of people only buying a certain console just because their friends mostly play on that particular console.

Yeah it's kinda weird I can see it hurting sales for Xbox honestly since the PS4 is the more powerful option but then again whichever people prefer they might have more of a passion for and want to fight for.

Well, Xbox is just becoming part of PC anyway so I guess at this point Microsoft don't have to care.

Maybe this will be the downfall of consoles as we know them? (aside from Nintendo doubt they'll get in on it)
In any case will make for some cool competition.

The main thing I'd like to see is someone take advantage of this and invent a controller that somehow blends mouse accuracy with controller movement control and triggers etc etc to have the best of both worlds so nobody has an advantage on either side...after they pay money of course!

I wouldn't say desperation, more like natural progression.

Consoles now feel more like PC's, and it's pretty obvious that the next generation will be the last for consoles, at least for Sony and Microsoft. Heck, I believe this is why Phil Spencer wants to make the Xbox One upgradable, it's to groom this generation for the next. Because at least for Microsoft it's pretty obvious the next generation will more than likely be a Console/PC hybrid, and this very move along with the other I mentioned would make the Xbox more PC like.

I do believe after the next generation Sony and Microsoft will migrate over to the PC and it'll come down to Operating Systems, which would put Sony at a huge disadvantage and would make Microsoft the top dog for being in their own yard. I believe we'll see a Sony like OS and we'll more than likely see an Xbox/Windows 10 hybrid gaming version, which should just be called Windows 10 Xbox Edition, where it has the easy accessibility of the Xbox, but still keep all the bells and whistles of Windows 10.

Anyway back to my point. I don't think this is desperation at all, it's just natural progression with where Consoles are going...this move just makes sense.

Why has it taken this long to do it? Apparently Sony were up for it last generation, but Microsoft wanted no part in it.

As I see it, it's just a way for them to increase X1 sales. A lot og people jumped over to PS4 because it's more powerful and their friends bought a PS4. If you take the whole 'friend' aspect away from it, the X1's exclusives hold more weight; people can play with their friends without having to buy a PS4, so the other parts of the decision come into play. PS4 has been doing cross-play for a while now, and Microsoft is only jumping back on the bandwagon now.

It's all up to developers anyway, whether they want to deal with the additional servers. Sony could say it's fine, but it might not change anything.

A lot of people went to the PS4 because of the Xbox One reveal, not because of it's power.

Now the backwards compatibility thing was an act desperation, and the Xbox One just isn't number one in sales, but from a sales point of view as a company they're doing great.

As for last generation, Microsoft was just soaking up their success in beating Sony and wanting to take things their own and not do anything like that, which is why the reveal was what it was.

Also, Microsoft just did what every gaming company does at some point...they got arrogant in their success and thought despite how ridiculous it is, people will still buy it because it's an Xbox. Nintendo did the same with the Wii-U and Sony did that last generation with the Playstation 3...it happens to everyone at some point, but what you do with it and how well you turn it around is what really matters. Both Microsoft and Sony turned things around with their screw ups very fast, and Microsoft realized what Sony realized last generation, that they've already this generation, so they just need to focus on fine tuning their console and just plan for the future.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Wait how did Microsoft beat Sony last generation? Could have sworn the PS3 sold more than the 360...?

Or they were pretty close at least, it wasn't like a devastating victory or anything many people were pissed off at having to pay for multiplayer and the lack of Blu-Ray with the 360 plus RROD.

I do wonder what Sony does next generation anyway since PC is obviously the future will they make their own OS or just migrate to Windows? That'd be a bit weird.
But could they reliably make a half decent OS I wonder? They don't really have the kind of backing MS does with that, unless for whatever reason they teamed up to make one because Windows having a worthwhile competitor would be profitable for both sides.

But yeah as for the actual topic, wonder what other games this will be done with? Aside from the obvious titles looking to cash in like CoD.
I just hope there's specific playlists for only Xbox vs PlayStation in multiplayer games, well, shooters anyway. The amount of PC elitists claiming to be more skilled in FPS would be staggering.
Also there'd be people abusing macro's too so a lot of games could be giving unfair advantages to PC players.
Can't see any way they could balance that out, unless they could somehow block the usage of a mouse and keyboard but that's just saying "you can't play this game unless you spend money on a controller" which would obviously go down badly

Since MOBA's are coming to console I'd expect some of them to try it out cross platform play since they've been more of a PC thing for years.
