Most likely if they avoid committing suicide some point down the line, once their life has improved (including their own thoughts) they'll be very glad they lived on, especially when many are killing themselves when quite young or due to things that in the long run can be made into insignificant parts of their story (the events themselves, not the feelings they experienced). So I do think that efforts should be made to prevent it. Even those efforts themselves can be an improvement to someone's life if it makes them know that someone thinks they're worth that effort.

People might say it's selfish for someone to commit suicide because it'll hurt others, but isn't it also selfish to guilt trip someone into living a life they hate just so you don't have to feel bad?

I think people should be free to make their own decisions, especially since it's probably gonna be how my life ends.

I'm not saying you should never try to talk anyone out of it or help them, just that I don't think it's as horrible as some people say. Phrases like "it'll get better" are just empty attempts at comforting someone. I mean they MIGHT get better, but no one knows that in reality things can get much much worse, and at least if you were dead you wouldn't have to experience anything bad any more.

Suicide has its pros and its cons, and I don't look down on anyone who chooses to do it.
