I've been clean and cigarette-free for 5 months now, and I feel absolutely great. I've gotta say that going through the nicotine withdrawals was like hell. Anyone else former smokers? |

Yeah, that's good to hear. I don't mess with cigarettes anymore but I do have hookah (water pipe) once in a blue moon as a social thing. |

Respect, man! Yeah exactly, it all depends on one's willpower. In my case, it's all about getting over the craving psychologically.

Thanks It's definitely not an easy task. I personally quit by nicotine gum and gradually cutting down on the gum based on the nicotine content (4 mg --> 1 mg). At the time, I was studying for my final exam and could not psychologically afford to quit cold turkey.

Aren't hookah and vaping actually worse for you than cigarettes? Or am I totally wrong? I only smoke hookah socially. Never picked up the smoking habit. But I've honestly been thinking about it with how stressed I've been lately. (These thoughts are entirely irrational, I know.) |

I quit smoking more than a month ago. Actually made a couple of posts of my progress a little while back. Where did you hear that OFG? |

I've always heard that hookah is worse for you than cigarettes, both from friends and online. I'm not sure how true it is, though. |

Oh, I don't know about hookah, but I've mostly heard that vaping is tons better because it's not actually burning your lungs and, especially, not getting them tarry. In fact, if anything, i would think they can help clear them. |

Vaporization heats the plant material to a certain point that it essentially bakes all of the nicotine out of the tobacco and leaves behind almost all of the carcinogens that are in smoke. This leaves behind only dried, brittle tobacco with almost zero nicotine content. Also, it has a milder scent. Definitely healthier. I personally own a handheld vaporizer that I used in college for marijuana. My friends tried tobacco in it though and it worked fine. Hookahs are pretty bad though. You can really mess up your lungs and underestimate how many cigarettes you're smoking just casually sitting there for an hour. I have maybe two or three cigarettes per month when my friend stops by and it's not too damn cold out to make it not worth it. One night in December after some drinking and smoking like four in one night, the next day, just someone MENTIONING a cigarette brought this fiery roar of craving in me out of nowhere. It was shocking as hell. I've played human guinea pig for personal scientific interest on most drugs once or twice and never have I felt a craving like that or just hit me at warpspeed at just the mention of a smoke. So no, I don't smoke been over a month now even since I had one and ever since that incident, well, I've gotten a glimpse over their insane addictiveness. My friend smokes a pack and a half a day and started within a year ago! (Granted, he was chewing tobacco for about 3-4 years prior on a daily basis)It's quite an admirable thing to quit and I never badger people for smoking unless they ask for help. Hell, in college, whenever someone went for a smoke break I would go with, freezing my a*** off, and just talk to them since the stimulating effects of nicotine helped me get to know them better IMO. Made them all a bit more uppity and talkative.
