I know that they get bored of one hair colour and they also like to give it more life. My question is why? And also why isn't this also common with men? Is it related to the female's biological compulsion to display?

Older women trying to hide their age tend to dye their white/grey hair to mask/hide their age

My Dear Melancholy,

We dye our hair way before 20's. Men dying their hair is popular on the East coast of USA.

It's fun to dye, gives a nice look, and just change the atmosphere kinda

Possibly to do with different beauty standards. Much more is made of women's hair than men's, so there could be a pressure for women to do more with their hair than men e.g. dying, getting it cut in different styles etc.

Attraction, perhaps. Especially when one dyes their hair red.

I honestly don't understand it myself. I've never dyed my hair any color, nor do I intend to but about 75% of girls at my school have colorful hair.

What will you do when you get old?

Attention. Dyed hair says "Look at me, I'm edgy".

Someone doesn't know what edgy means.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

He probably meant when people dye their hair bright green or rainbow colours to violently proclaim how different and unique they are.

I've never seen the appeal, vivid red looks nice but then that's a natural reaction as red colours get people going.

Otherwise it doesn't make me especially interested in a person, fakeness doesn't attract me to a woman.

I think he means vibrantly coloured hair. I don't think my nan is trying to be edgy by dying her grey hair.

My Dear Melancholy,

How is dyeing your hair being fake? Especially if it's just highlights...?

No

id imagine for the same reason why anyone, both men and women, would want to look nice -- or at least what they think looks nice.
