Genetic studies have revealed that the first modern humans who poured out of Africa, somewhere between 40,000 and 70,000 years ago, soon got busy mating with local Neanderthals.

To get a better picture of Europe's genetic legacy during this cold snap, Posth and his colleagues analyzed mitochondrial DNA — genetic material passed on from mother to daughter — from the remains of 55 different human fossils between 35,000 and 7,000 years old, coming from across the continent, from Spain to Russia. Based on mutations, or changes in this mitochondrial DNA, geneticists have identified large genetic populations, or super-haplogroups, that share distant common ancestors.

"Basically all modern humans outside of Africa, from Europe to the tip of South America, they belong to these two super-haplogroups that are M or N," Posth said. Nowadays, everyone of European descent has the N mitochondrial haplotype, while the M subtype is common throughout Asia and Australasia.

I'm going to need some clarification. I don't see how your title relates to your quotes. Do some analysis please.

I guess he's assuming that all homo-sapiens mated with one another but proceeded to get freaky with the other specie.

It does not suggested that. It's stating that humans were having sexual relations with Neanderthals 40,000 to 70,000 years ago.

It may have been single humans, it may have been been polyamorous humans, maybe humans and Neanderthal entered into monogamous relationships together.

Most groups stay together, lions with lions, tigers with tigers, on rare times you'll see ligers. Humans would be mating with other humans.

Imagine the poor wife who lost her husband to some beefy neanderthal broad. lol ouch (Maybe the individuals who lost their mates to neanderthals got together and decided to get revenge via genocide? LOL)

Jk

I heard that the neanderthals were all red heads so I bet our ancestors found that attractive.

If ^ is the case then we have those cheating ancestors to thank for red heads like Emma Stone

What will you do when you get old?

I think you all forget that before civilized society rape was very common. It's not that hard to believe that neanderthals raped humans and humans raped neanderthals. I mean, look at what happens in Africa right now. Rape in Africa is rampant, and it's mostly uncivilized.

How? Can you show an example of how that applies to a large group?
