The Lord of the Dark

Because the best Universal movie from their monsters series deserves its own thread.

This movie's got great acting(mainly from Claude Rains, though everyone else is also really good), it's the funniest among most monster movies(aside from a few cheesy zombie/daikaiju flicks) and the SFX are fantastic, superior to most other mainstream movies with similar effects, such as "Who framed Roger Rabbit?". This movie is all around one of the best ones in black and white.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

My husband absolutely loves this movie, and it's his favorite classic horror film for various reasons. Mostly because of the unconventional story and because the visual effects were well beyond their time.
There's movies made in the 1980s that had crappier visual effects than this movie.

I've also seen this movie, and also find it tremendously underrated.

Rumor is that it's being remade, and Johnny Depp is slated to play the lead. I just hope they don't screw it up like they did with Hollow Man, which was a horrible movie.

Yeah, I heard about that remake. I'm not happy with Depp as The Invisible Man. Nothing can or will ever top Claude Rains in this role, though.

I agree, but I don't mind Johhny Depp as being cast.

The original had some humorous parts in it, and I think Depp's quarky style will fit the movie.
But for f***'s sake, PLEASE don't let it be Tim Burton who directs the thing. I don't get his style at all and I simply don't like most of his movies.

Yeah, but Rains had a powerful yet hilarious voice that worked with any situation he had any involvement with. Depp can't do the same character unless they change him a bit. And if that's the case... well crap.
