Looking for some RPGs on PC

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

Watching Pelador's Temple of Elemental Evil play through, along with beginning to enjoy video games again, has me wanting to play a game in a similar, RPG-style to that. It'd have to work on my laptop: not sure of the exact specs, but it runs Medieval II: Total War pretty smoothly (until it starts to heat up after a few hours). So yeah, looking for suggestions, thanks in advance.

I haven't played these games and I don't know if they are similar to The Temple of Elemental Evil ,but, maybe you should try Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines since they are all developed by the same company. Or you could just find your own RPG game that you want to play by searching throught this detailed wiki catalouge,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_role-playing_video_games

(Just pick the year range and you will have a list of all RPG games in that year range).

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Pillars of Eternity have very similar styles and all set in the D&D world. However unlike Toee they use real time combat instead of turn based. I think they might also use 2nd edition rules instead of 3rd edition like Toee does. Strange since Pillars of Eternity was released when fifth edition was out.

There's also Divinity Original Sin, which is pretty good in my opinion, and you can play coop in that! It's pretty cool honestly, though I haven't been able to use it. Though I'm unsure on specifications, you should be able to look it up on steam though at least.

Baldur's Gate is a great choice, its sequel is even better.
There's also Fallout 1 and 2, which are also isometric RPGs, with an emphasis on tactics.
Lots of people really love Planescape: Torment, though I haven't yet played it.
Underrail is a Fallout tribute (as Pillars of Eternity is a Baldur's Gate tribute) that came out recently and got good reviews.
Undertale, a distinct entity from Underrail, is an obvious choice, even if it's hardly an RPG.
Diablo 2 is a great game, one that I've sunk untold amounts of hours into, but it's very light on story; it's (almost) entirely gameplay.
Neverwinter Nights and its sequel are generally good games, but both have shortcomings - the first game has a fairly mild plot and characters, and the second game is generally kind of janky on the gameplay side.
I think you've said you've played them, but KoToR and its sequel are both awesome.
Dragon Age: Origins was well-received and should run on your system. I'd have played it more extensively, but it was always crashing for me.
The Mass Effect Trilogy is well-loved, but you might have trouble running it.
The Elder Scrolls series is really great. Oblivion is my personal favorite, but Morrowind and Skyrim are undoubtedly winners as well. Morrowind is notable for being only on PC.
There are a quite a few Final Fantasies on PC. They're obviously quite a bit different from the stuff Pelador plays, but FF7 is very nice on PC.
A bit of a long shot, but Castlevania: Symphony of the Night runs near perfectly when emulated and is an immensely fun platformer-RPG hybrid. Playing it emulated isn't strictly legal, but could be considered legal if you own a PS1 and the game. Still, a title worth seeking out if you have an Xbox 360 or PS3, as it has been released digitally on those systems.

Baldur's Gate I and II both use 2E, though BGII has some elements of third mixed in. Icewind Dale II is a full 3E game, while Icewind Dale is 2E. Pillars of Eternity uses a unique system that shares some, not many, qualities with D&D.

Pillars of Eternity felt like it could have been Baldur's Gate III. Whilst the combat system isn't my style, the game looks and plays great. I much prefer it to Baldur's Gate.

Oh yeah, I can't believe I didn't think of DA:O that's a pretty great game. Just wondering but when you say a game with a similar rpg style what do you mean exactly? like the spells and such or the turn based combat? Depending on how you're willing to go, Dead State might be an option (it's a zombie apocalypse rpg, my friend really likes it and spent hours on it, though I've only just gotten the game myself).

And if we're allowed to stretch it (I mean if undertale and diablo are allowed I figure it's fine) Darkest Dungeon could be an option for the more hardcore stuff, plus you can name the characters after us and watch us go insane and die! :p

I found Pillars to be a little too easy and it was held back by its kickstarter obligations. If it was a little bit better balanced, I think I would have really loved it. Agreed that it looks and plays great; those backgrounds are incredible.

It was too easy yeah. I mean you could solo the game with hardly any problems if you knew what you were doing.

Yeah, I'd prefer turn-based combat, but I'm open to real-time. And also similar in that it should be easy enough to run on my laptop.

Edit: Also, thanks for the suggestions guys, I've got a lot to work with here and should find at least one or two games I enjoy.

It did, though I am very curious as to how it was done, the game seemed to rely on a cursor got the most part. At least in regards to the journal.

From what I've seen it controlled abysmally, but at the time it didn't really matter. Everyone was more surprised that the Xbox could have such vast landscapes and the amount of content it did. Just did a quick check and user scores and critic scores for Morrowind on the Xbox are incredibly high.

^Funny enough this reviewer predicted the future regarding patches and the issues with Hard Drive games.

If you're alright with playing some OLD but legally free Elder Scrolls, I have a link here that will link you to a self-installing TES II: Daggerfall setup that gives some options for mods to increase draw distance and the like with a fully configured DOSbox.

http://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN

Edit: Warning, this game is BRUTAL (like, Metal deathcore kind of brutal) if you aren't smart with your setup.

EditEdit: I would've linked you to Zenimax's website where they have it up for download as well, but they don't have the setup for modern systems. Just the base Dos game to run on Dosbox (which without some tweaking has issues with Windows 10)
