As y'all know, Dragon Ball is notorious for shafting characters that were once relevant. Remember Yamcha, the cool desert bandit who was the first character shown to hurt Goku? Lost almost every fight he was in, never makes it the past the first round in a tournament and eventually gives up fighting for good. Remember Tenshinhan, the cool three-eyed guy who was Goku's first true rival? Does nothing of relevance after the Saiyan arc besides stall Semi-Perfect Cell. Remember Klilin, the cool monk who was Goku's fellow disciple under Roshi? Is way outclassed in battle after the Saiyan arc and eventually gives up fighting entirely. Remember Chaozu, the cool kid with the psychic powers? Does nothing of relevance after the 22nd World Tournament arc and gets left behind entirely starting with the Androids arc. Remember Piccolo, the cool green guy who was another one of Goku's true rivals? Becomes a babysitter and does nothing of relevance in fighting after the Cell arc. Remember Gohan, the cool kid with an insane amount of hidden power? Becomes a dorky Superman knockoff who constantly slacked off from his training, which effectively puts his own family at risk, causes him to become weaker and get beaten up after the Cell arc. Remember Trunks, the main timeline's version of that cool guy from the future? Becomes an annoying brat who was only useful when he fused with another brat to became an even bigger brat and does nothing of relevance after the Boo arc. Remember Goten, the ... OK, I hate him but he's truly a waste of potential for the same reasons as Trunks. Remember Boo, the cool pink guy with the weird powers? Does nothing of relevance after his own arc. Remember Pan, the cool kid who was very enthusiastic about martial arts from a young age? Becomes a very annoying brat who's often just a damsel-in-distress in GT. Remember Oob ... kay, he sucks too, but he was the reincarnation of Kid Boo and hyped up to be Goku's successor as defender of Earth, but wins zero major battles in GT. Dragon Ball now is basically just the Goku & Vegeta show. Gohan's shafting bothered me the most; I really like "passing the mantle" stories, and the mantle of main character and defender of Earth was passed to Gohan after the Cell arc ... which all gets negated once Goku is brought back in the Boo arc. Garbage writing. EDIT: Whoops, I forgot about 17 and 18 in the poll Edited by Scotty_Rogers, Feb 8 2016, 08:37 AM.

Garbage writing eh? Try drawing for 10 years then talk lol. You're basically condemning writing of a series which ended freakin aeons ago. Some shaft really suprised me, but not to the extent of calling it garbage. Gotta go with Piccolo, Boo & yeah the whole Next Gen fighters (Gohan, Goten & Trunks) Piccolo reduced to baby-sitter was painful. Especially after his imposing presence as Super Namekian in just 1 Arc before Boo was thoroughly underused. His intelligence, depth, skills etc were completly stripped post-Majin Veggie's sacrifice. Was absent for over 30+ episodes (Super Buu, Buutenks, Buuhan & Kid Buu ran the freak show) & popped at tail-end just to be a glorified cameo. Gohan's shaft took me by suprise. I was super pissed with the routine template of him unlockin potential & winning. Grit my teeth & clenched my fist as he beat Super Boo down. But boy! How Toriyama cleverly used his character weakness to bring Goku into main picture was pure gold imo! Goten & Trunks were alright tbh. Its just Gotenks was Veggie rip-off in terms of arrogance & dumbness. Which honestly irked me, but their shaft in an otherwise crytal-clear Next-Gen direction the series was headed took me by suprise. Bold decisions by Toriyama would be apt rather than garbage writing imo |

Toriyama still tried to keep them somewhat relevant. They still did stuff even though power wise they weren't much But I'd have to say piccolo. He's completely outclassed in the buu saga. He was still cool but man his power makes no difference whatsoever |

Anyone not named Goku and Vegeta got shafted hard and if Vegeta wasn't Goku's rival, it wouldn't surprise me if he too got the same treatment as everyone else. In fact, as the series goes on, characters become less and less important to leave room so that dear Goku can shine. It certainly doesn't help that I think that current Goku is a horrible protagonist and nowhere near as interesting as some of the other characters. But you can see it. Early Series: Everyone plays an important part, showing skill, strength and determination. It wasn't about how hard your punches were sometimes, it was about honest to goodness ability. Goku was as likely to win his fights as he was to lose them and there was a real sense of adventure where everyone's ability mattered, even if that ability was intelligence. Saiyan Arc/Freeza: More of the human characters become obselete but there is a sense that the humans are still playing a part. Piccolo's important, and while the humans aren't exactly curbstomping Saiyans and Freeza, the Arcs give enough respect to at least put them in the story. Cell Arc: Almost entirely directed towards Saiyans, humans play almost no part in it and the only non-Saiyan of any value is Piccolo. this is the point where the Saiyan Shilling began to truly occur. Boo Arc: If you don't have Saiyan blood in you, why the f*** are you even alive? This is the Boo Arc, a series dedicated to nothing but the most Saiyanish Saiyans to ever Saiyanate from the Planet Saiyageta. Everyone else...who cares? Who cares about Yamcha, or Roshi, or Tenshinhan, or Krillin. Are they Saiyans? No, so why should we care? Dragon Ball Super: Praise thy holy name Goku who died for the explosion of the universe and was resurrected 3 days later by Saint Vegeta on the Holy Night. Everyone else doesn't matter...in fact...there is nobody else but them. |

This. What a shame, though, I know most of us liked Goku before he became the Jesus of the franchise. |
Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?! Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power. | |

Piccolo for sure. He was always keeping up with the Saiyans, so it disappoints me he fell behind. |

I'd have to choose Gohan. At least it can be argued that everyone else losing relevance is understandable because of the power creep. But Gohan? It was random and pretty bad treatment. Even Piccolo was starting to lose relevance as the Android Saga went on. That power creep though. |

Yamcha. He's been Toriyama's punching bag since day 1 and hardly ever caught a break even as the treatment got worse with time. I'm indifferent towards the Gohan situation these days whatnot with the fans constantly bitching about it. I don't think Krillin got shafted. He battles with them lions even when he knows he's outmatched, is the strongest human in the word of God, and had plenty of moments to shine namely Freeza Saga and prior. He just retired and changed priorities after getting married. I also don't think the kids (Goten and Trunks) were shafted. Their powers are undeserved and they were completely uninteresting as characters. Piccolo and Tien weren't shafted either just outclassed . Majin Boo is definitely bad. He went from being a fun, unique character to a recurring joke involving his stupidity or him being a gluttonous douchebag. Pan is just a baby in current canon lore so we can't say that she's shafted but in GT she definitely didn't get shafted. If anything GT gave her way too much presence for being such a useless and annoying character. We don't know how Super gonna handle the 28th Budokai so there's no need to jump to conclusion. Oob definitely got shafted in GT though. Chiaotzu never really had a purpose beyond being Tien's f*** buddy and to show Krillin's progression as a fighter. On a side-note, I think Chi-Chi and Yajirobe got shafted pretty badly. Yajirobe fought on par with Goku from the 22nd Budokai on a standstill and climbed Korin's Tower (albeit with a little boost) with Goku on his back with no prior formal training from super masters or gods to senzu besn delivery boy. Chi-Chi used to be that cute face that shocked everyone with her strength and skill (Muten Roshi even outright praised her skill level and felt compelled to reference her mastery in relation to her style resembling his own Turtle School) but now she (and the series) seems to have forgotten all about her fighting abilities and is remembered best for a lame joke. She's even become underrated to the point of giving people false illusions to her abilities. |

Piccolo was shafted. Went from being serious warrior to babysitter/wannabe mentor. |

Yamcha. Mainly because I feel he had the most potential out of all the Humans because he felt the most "normal" out of the group. It's a shame that Krillin was pretty much the only Human AT cared about in Z and even that didn't last long. |

Yamcha's da only normal human. The fact AT ranked him on par with Tienshinhan as fighter in their TB fight only further raised his human-noid meter Krillin just pales when compared to those 2. Alas, AT only considers him as "human". Heck, even used Yamucha as fourth wall in Great Saiyaman Arc to say Krillin's da strongest human fighter Hopefully Uub restores the pride for strongest Super Human category |

Definitely Gohan. All of his momentum and build up starting from the Saiyan arc and onward, only to have it all ripped to shreds for a hasty return to Goku and his shenanigans. Now he's considered to be a laughing stock that's comparable with the perception of Yamcha and Krillin. |

I like Tien a lot, he totally should get some spotlight. I wouldn't mind seeing Yamcha fight again either. |

Piccolo is my gut answer (and I also believe the right answer) but reading some of this...it's really hard not to want to pick Yamcha. I'd probably rank the top 5 as Piccolo, Yamcha, Gohan, Krillin, Tien. |
