Boo's Appearance; Power or Substance

"I am the bone of my sword."

Most people come under the belief that Boo's change in appearance when he absorbs someone comes from an issue of power. The stronger the person, the more likely Boo is to take on that characteristic.

That's all nice and dandy except for the fact that the exact opposite happens when he absorbs the gods. Originally Kid Boo took the characteristics of the strongest Kaioshin, Big Papa Southern. However, despite absorbing the stated weaker Dai Kaioshin, Boo instead took on his appearance.

Does this mean that Boo's appearance isn't necessarily based on who the strongest person is but the one with the greatest substance and reaction. while weaker, Dai Kaioshin had a massive and notable effect on Boo's body, going as far as to give him a human heart and greatly weakening his original power.

This in turn can be why Super Book took on his collective appearance. Compared to Piccolo, Gotenks is not only massively stronger, but contains great potential thanks to the two half Saiyans inside of him. Meanwihle, compared to Piccolo, the kids themselves, possibly not only being weaker than Piccolo, but do not share his intelligence and vast wisdom.

It is also more than possible that Boo merely takes the characteristics of those he absorbs in order. Super Boo (as far as we know) absorbed Gotenks first, taking on his appearance. When the kids defused, Piccolo was the second person he had absorbed so he took on his appearance. He absorbs Gohan next and thus takes on his appearance instead.

Boo isn't really ment to make a lot of sense.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Buu's absorbed SSJ3 Gotenks & Piccolo one-shot. Wasnt step-by-step.

The kids cockiness was balanced by Piccolo's calculative mind = Buutenks, best form of Buu imo

Zetto senshi's aside, Gods heirachy isnt based on strength. Like typical Asian/Japanese culture, they are based upon seniority/age

Ex: Dai Kaioshin (OtherWorld Tournament) was respected & feared by Kaio's of 4 Quadrants NOT for his bombastic powers rivalling SSJ3 etc

The superior hierachy & status owing to Dai Kaios legendary age/seniority which seems to somewhat reflect "experience"

Same case with Buu imo

Manga (AT) never bothered indulging much into his pre & post Gods absorption process.

But going by Anime-exclusive fillers, the Burly South Kaioshin did the best against Kid Buu. His absorption = Buff Buu

As for kind-hearted & gentle Dai Kaioshin, his "soul" tamed Buff Buu's freak of nature power, hence locking away the creepiest "parts" of Buu: nasty Super Buu & mindless beast Kid Buu

My 2 cents

The heaviest "mental" influence was what dominated Boo's appearance.

Grand Kaioshin was the upmost supreme god of the Dragon World. An influence as strong as his should have been the most dominant within Boo.

Not sure if that works for the mental influence of Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks.

But it pieces together and makes sense well.

Buu seems to have a weird reaction when it comes to mingling with the Kais and their unique type of energy. The morality of Dai Kaioshin was noted to have had a profound impact on Buu due to the stark contrast between their respective natures. It's like trying to mix oil and water together.
