Why did they change Vegeta's look?

Why couldn't they keep Vegeta like this. I feel like this would've made Vegeta a much cooler character, I liked this look a lot more. I never knew why exactly they changed it. Maybe it was because they wanted all saiyans to have black hair or something and maybe his armor was too garish. But I've always like this Vegeta better. Do you guys know why they changed him and did you like this version of him better?

I don't think that was ever Toriyama's intended look for Vegeta.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I don't know why they changed him, but personally, I'm glad they did. I much prefer the altered version of Vegeta we've come to know and love. I think the blue, white & gold colours of the Saiyan Armour compliment each other a lot more than the blue, green and orange (which sort of looks like someone just picked a bunch of random colours in a colouring book).

He doesn't look threatening at all. And not in a "looks don't matter" kind of way, in a "you don't belong here" kind of way. He looks silly.

There hadn't been a coloured version of Vegeta in the manga yet, so instead of asking Toriyama (or maybe they did and Toriyama didn't respond in time), they just guessed.

Also all full blooded Saiyans do have black hair.

Plain and simple, Toriyama hadn't come up with the color scheme for Vegeta when he was introduced in the anime.

This isn't the only time they had to double back with a concept.
The form that Goku reaches in the fourth movie (Lord Slug) was simply called "Super Saiyan", until the real Super Saiyan appeared in the manga; by which the black haired form from movie 4 was changed to "Giji Supa Saiya-jin" (False Super Saiyan).

We also see the androids in Trunks's anime description appear as hulking monsters, but of course we later know them to be a twin Boy and Girl.

Lol

Veggie looks straight outta 80's coloring book. His hair color while gives the "alien-feel", I wouldnt prefer Veggie to have Blond hait as SSJ, then Orange as his Base.

It would look funny, kinda like Naruto

Are you seriously asking why they changed it?
Just look at it, he looks ridiculous.

He might be cool, but only in the so-bad-it's-good way.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

I actually think that design is cool, too, but Vegeta looks much better with black hair, black eyes, black eyebrows and tan skin.

I wonder how Vegeta would look later on in the series if they stuck with that design.

First of all, they didn't "change" him, they "made him right" - his initial color scheme was due to the fact that Toriyama hadn't yet released proper colors for Toei to use.

Second, with these colors he looks like a total Toei theatrical movie minion, not even the main antagonist. He makes me think of all the horrors of filler. Ugh.
