When they birthed you affect how old you think you are? Sometimes I start believing I'm old and my parents were above average age when they had me. Just curious.

My parents were 17 and 18, respectively, so were (and still are in my eyes) fairly young when that all went down.

I'm 27 now, and have a 5 year old of my own, so i'm just thinking "I'm a grown up" hah.

no idea what youre trying to ask. i mean i do but the way you worded it seems weird

anyway, i was actually just talking to my colleagues earlier about something related to this cuz a few of them are pregnant: i figured out i was conceived around my mum's birthday.

Yeah i guess it was worded weird. Say if your parents were 20 when you were born. Could that make you feel younger generally than if, say, they were 40 when you were born? Because sometimes mentally I feel like I've been around longer than I really have lol.

oh right. yeah i feel like that partly contributes to why i feel older than i actually am. my mum was 23 when she had me and had my sister when she was the age i am now; i dont have one kid yet so i used to feel like im reaching my expiry date. however, ive also kind of accomplished more than my mum at the same age, so over time i've learned that basing it on # of children is dumb.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

The only way I can see it having that effect is, like Buub said, if your parents had you at a young age. When you reach that age, you'll start thinking "oh s***, my parents had kids at this age, old people have kids, therefore I am old" when in reality, your parents were just young when they conceived.

Possibly if your parents were older than average (40+), then maybe growing up around older people would have some sort of effect on your personality, making you more mature than others. That's a complete guess though, no idea whether it holds any weight.

"Course. Doing better next time. That's what life is."

Certainly feels like people are a lot older these days before they decide to have children. That's down to more women having better jobs and wanting careers first. As well as better birth control and wider, more effective sex education.

My Dear Melancholy,

My mom was either 18 or 19 when she had me. Doesn't really affect me.

My mother was either 31 (I think), when I was born, so not really.
